Dining Plan and Checking In

If I have a reservation including DDP can I go directly to park and use a dining credit (or charge to my account) or do I need to check in at resort first? I will do the online check in before hand and link a CC.

I know my Magic Band will work for entry since I have an AP and have used it before but not sure if DDP (or charging) will be available.

You will need to check in at the resort first so that your dining plan is activated. You can then go eat.

I was told by three different CM when I called in that I did not have to go to the resort to check in first that I could go to the park to our morning ADR at Hollywood and Vine then return to check in in the afternoon. I have not done it yet so not sure if that's true but it was what I was told.

As of a couple weeks ago, those 3 CMs have given bad information. My BIL and family drove down and got to MK for rope drop prior to checking in at Pop. They had no issues getting into MK but did not have access to their Dining Credits until the checked in at Pop. They were told by Guest Services that only on site guests had access to the Dining Plan and until you check in, you are not an on site guest. If MK would have had EMH that morning, they would not have been able to get into MK because they weren't on site guests yet.

If you have already set up a PIN you may be able to do so. However, resort reservations do require the user to show up and present an ID before they are able to use the resort reservation for anything, so you may not be able to use dining credits, EMH or do room charges until you have showed up at the resort.

Do you know what dinning plan they had? The CM's did all say that you had to have regular or deluxe dinning to check in later - that quick service would no work before check in. Which makes sense as you would not have table service reservations for a quick service. I did call again and asked again and was told as long as it was for a table service and I had a pin set up it would work. So that is now four plus and email. I am probably going to have to chance it as I don't think we will have time to check in before our reservations.

I have the PLUS dining plan for our reservation in April and ws told by the CM that I had to check in at the resort before I could use it. She said they are working on the system to try to make this a possibility in the future, but currently you cannot use it unless you have already checked in.

Hmm that makes me freak out a little. So why am I getting the CMs who are telling me it will be fine. I still have till summer so I guess I will just keep asking and maybe it will happen cuz I'm asking so much.

Because CMs frequently don't have a clue as to what they're talking about with some of this stuff.

Yeah I get that its just funny that all the ones I've talked to have told me I don't have to check in physically first seems that the odds would give me at least one that said no.

Just to throw my experience into the mix--

I had the same question and called. The CM I spoke with also told me that we would need to check-in first to activate our dining plan.
