So, we are considering upgrading our tickets to APs this go around. I heard that it can be a good deal if you go back in less than 12 months.

My question is, though, how does that work with resort packages and the dining plan? Don't you have to buy park tickets when you buy a package with room and dining plan?

A "ticketless" package is available for purchase by annual passholders.

You just can't do Free Dining without purchasing tickets.

Nor can you get deals like buy 4/get 3 free type deals without buying tickets.

You can get a room at rack rate or with an AP discount, get the DDP, and not have to buy park tickets though.

Does an AP still end up being a good deal when you do this? (and come twice a year?) or do you have to come more than that?

You still get a discount on the room if AP rates are out. You just don't get DDP free - but then you are not paying rack rates and you're not having to buy tickets. You'd need to do the math on what it would cost you for 2 trips for tickets and dining.

AP holders also have the option of buying a Tables In Wonderland membership for dining discounts at most TS restaurants and some CS.
