Dining options for our August trip

Hi y'all

We're headed out to Disneyland the first week of August and I'm trying to figure out dining. It'll be myself, DH, and our two boys (5 and 2) - the 2-year old will eat anything, but the 5-year old is more picky; he doesn't like typical kid food, and he likes things quite plain (grilled chicken and fish, plain fruit and veggies, no sauce, etc). We have three full park days and one half day, and we're probably not going to be spending all day in the parks. We're doing two nights at Paradise Pier and two nights at the Disneyland Hotel, and hopefully getting to see a bit of Downtown Disney, so we can eat anywhere.

We want to do one character meal, but not sure which one - any recommendations for the best one? I'm also wondering if the dining packages for Fantasmic! and Paint the Night are worth it or necessary. My husband would also like to find a place to get a good steak.

Thanks for any help!

It totally depends on your budget, IMO. There are excellent kid options just about everywhere, even for picky eaters. I'd choose based on what you and your husband like.

For a good steak, though $$$, I'd go with Napa Rose, Carthay Circle, or the steakhouse at DLH.

We are going around the same time with my 9-yo twins. We are doing Napa Rose, Carthay Circle, Sonoma Terrace reception/PTN package, and Blue Bayou/Fantasmic! package. I also booked a late lunch one day at Lamplight Lounge for fun since it's new to us. I love that Disney makes it welcoming and special for kids whether you are eating quick service or $$$$ restaurants.

Agree. I would go to the Napa Rose or Storytellers. Your 5 yo should like the Petit Fillet of beef at Napa Rose.

Thanks for the tips guys. I had a look at the menus and while I thought Napa Rose sounded good, hubby picked Steakhouse 55 - so that's one decision made! We want to try Lamplight Lounge as well, thanks for mentioning that you can make reservations there I had no idea!

Because we live so close to WDW we're not buying a ton of souvenirs this trip unless we find unique DL stuff, so our budget is pretty much all for food! We don't want too many reservations since we want to try plenty of the Pixar Fest food, but we do want a couple of nice meals.
