Dining/OOP question

Hi everyone,
Stilll deciding on whether or not to get dining plan for our family of 5 trip (3 young kids) in May. If we don't and pay OOP what kind of payment do the parks take? Does everything have to go on a room key or can we use Debit or something like an AMEX gift card that we've put allocated money on to use for dining that we can still use when we are back at home if we don't spend it all? Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

I would say totally yes. Not everyone at Disney is staying at a resort with a card attached. In fact we have never bought a meal there charging it to our resort card. No need to even mention where you're staying. Just be a regular customer, eat and pay with whatever card you choose. (As long as it's accepted)
