Is this correct? If my stay at DW covers at least one day that the free dining is offered then I'm allowed the free dining the entire time? Im confused.

Yes this is correct! We did that with the kids stay and play free offer. It was over after October 1...so we are checking in on the 1st and getting the offer the whole time. Works the same way for FD....however, it does not work this way with %'s off...those are only good on the listed dates! Enjoy!

I thought the first day of the stay had to be in the dates for free dining

The previous poster is correct -- it is based on your arrival date. If you arrive during a "free dining" window (and book the associated package), you would get the promotion for your length of stay, which is up to 14 nights.

If you check in during the offer's time frame, then your entire trip is covered even if you check out after the offer's time frame is over.
Example 1: your stay is 8/30-8/6; free dining starts 8/28 - your entire trip has free dining
Example 2: your stay is 9/24-10/1; free dining ends on 9/26 - your entire trip has free dining

If you check in BEFORE the offer's timeframe, you will need to book 2 reservations - only the portion of your trip starting on or after free dining starts will be covered.
Example 1: your stay is 8/25-9/2; free dining starts on 8/28 - you would need to make a reservation for 8/25-8/28 & one from 8/28-9/2. Only the second reservation would have free dining but you would then also have to buy another (at least 2-day) ticket for everyone.
Example 2: your stay is 8/20-8/29; free dining starts on 8/28 - same situation as Example 1 but not worth getting FD for a day, IMHO..

Hope this helps.

One caveat here -- apparently, you can now get package tickets in advance, useful for people with split stays or off-property/on-property stays. So as long as you weren't booking a dining plan for the first part of the stay, you could get the tickets for just the second part of the stay, and then get the tickets early.

If doing this, be sure to check with Disney for confirmation that it is possible and any rules regarding it that might impact you.

Thank you for the information! Much appreciated -- now if I can get the free DDP offer, I'll be all set :)
