Dining leftovers - transferrable? Vouchers?

We are tight on money our first day and someone was asking me about the dining plan leftovers from a trip.

If someone checks out, are their dining credits gone, then if they don't use them? Or are they still accessible for like 7 days?

Also, are the vouchers a thing of the past?

I believe that a person's dining credits expire at midnight on the day of check out.

If you don't use your dining plan credits by midnight on the day you check-out, you lose them. I have read that some DISers have purchased meals/snacks for others in restaurants just to use them up. But you don't get any refunds if you don't use them.
