I wouldn't feel bad about requesting a table of 2. This past cruise we had people who didn't speak English well - they requested a table of 2 as they felt left out. Totally understandable. We've also requested to move tables as we had friends at another table.
I either request via concierge or direct if not concierge for our own table.
We are on vacation and its family time, not unsociable, but it's our holiday. So you are correct.
I disagree with thoose who say
DCL are good st matching people up, they do not do that, they fit party size to availability. However with younger families typically on Main, and Adults only on late, the process filters people a bit.
Issues are when joining others, if your a " on time" person, and they are a " 15 minutes late" group, it really messes up dinner service.
If you have wine or say a wine package, and they do not, it can cause issues.
If you want to get down and eat quickly and they want to chat and take their time.
Now none of these are wrong or right, just different types of people put together.
