My family and I are going to Universal at the end of July. We are staying at RPR. Do I need to make advance dining reservation like Disney vacations or can we pretty much wing it?

You should be okay with winging it, but you can always make reservations in Citywalk as you're walking to the parks, just to guarantee.

If you're wanting to eat at CityWalk, you can make reservations that morning but you could wait if you wanted. Since you're staying onsite, you can get preferred seating which will cut the wait times down some. As far as the parks go, most places won't take reservations so it's all walk ins. Mythos at IOA takes reservations but most of the time you won't need worry with it. This summer you might want to make reservations at Mythos since it's so close to WWoHP and should get lots of walk up traffic.

How far in advance should one make reservations? Do you still mean same day ressies can be had at Mythos or should they be done earlier?

Mythos is going to be a hot ticket because of the foot traffic to WWoHP so I would plan on making a reservation at least by that morning. I'm not sure how far in advance they will take them...I'm thinking maybe 30 days but not sure. However...if you arrive at the restaurant at opening which is 11am you shouldn't have to wait long.

I have to laugh...I know every nook and cranny, every manager and every restaurant on Disney property. Tomorrow I go with my son's fifth grade field trip to Universal, and I AM CLUELESS! We are headed to IOA, and I want to know how I make a priority seating for lunch and where, since I heard the wait times are oh so bad. I am spoiled with my knowledge of the ways to get things done at Disney, but I'm afraid I need a little help here on the Universal end of things. Thanks guys!

The only place in IOA that would be considered a "sit down" restaurant that you may want to do this is Mythos, and depending on your party size you probably won't need to. Just check with them when they open in the morning.

BTW, the food there is excellent and you are going to be surprised at the prices considering what you get.
