We're going to be staying at AKL from 7/16 to 7/18. How are the restaurants there? We will be okay just eating at the hotel? We did not purchase the dining plan.

Thanks for any input you have.

I really love both Jiko and Boma at AKL!

Do you mean 2008? Or do you mean July? Haven't your dates passed?

Even without purchasing the DDP, you should still get ADRs for the restaurants there. They are very popular and there is the possibility that you would not be able to eat there without an ADR. The counter service restaurant Mara is very decent as well. They have typical burger fare, plus salads, wraps, sandwiches, pizza, etc etc and you can get the zebra domes from Boma there, which are very popular and highly favored by many.;)

Both the table service restaurants are very good, but they serve food that is infuenced by Africa. It is a bit exotic, but not very much and not very hot or so. Both restaurants also offer dishes that are for the less adventurous eater, especiall Boma as a buffet will give anyone the option to pick what they like.

But as said before, it is absolutely necessary to get ADRs for both restaurants.

Mara is a nice place, I liked there selection. Besides burgers and such they also offer more interesting things like African stew. They also have the butternut squash soup that is sometimes served at Boma. It is fantastic!!

While staying there we ate at Mara, and Boma for breakfast. Boma's breakfast buffet was outstanding ... so much so that next trip we'll have to try their dinner buffet.

Fixed the date. Thanks!

Boma is really good, and as others have said, ADRs are necessary! The buffet is probably the best buffet I've had on Disney property. I'll try most anything, but if you have picky eaters in the family, there's stuff for them too.
I've not been to Jiko, but have visited the Mara more than once. It's a nice food court, and the kids will like it.

All of the restaurants are great! The Mara has a fantastic shrimp meal that is very much worth the price... tons of shrimp (and you can ask for substitutions on the sides, I was able to get a salad instead of fries no problem.) Boma is really, really, really good for both breakfast and dinner. Jiko is higher-end and very good also. You can take a culinary tour at the AKL, just check the board in the lobby for activities and their dates/times.

Boma is AWESOME!

Please call 407-WDW-DINE and make reservations. I would hate for you to get there and not be able to enjoy the restaurants.

Both Jiko and Boma are awesome! We typically stay at the Poly and always make ADRs for both restaurants every time we visit WDW.
