Dining Around the World 12/20 – 12/26

We went to WDW for our first Christmas trip this year, with many more PSs than in the past.

12/20
Lunch: Pizza Planet – quick lunch after arrival before parade – family of four shared 2 pizzas and 2 small salads. Food okay – service very slow.
Dinner: Fantasmic Dinner Package at H&V. We had 4:40 PS for 8 people and were seated on time. We felt the food was very good. The salad bar was small but everything was very fresh. DH really loved the roasted vegetables and pork. I felt the salmon was very good. For a buffet, we were duly impressed

12/21
Lunch: Columbia Harbor House
– Four of us shared two orders of fish and chicken with fries and shared 2 pieces of pie. We used Q&C vouchers. Food was fine.
Dinner: Quick trip to DTD with dinner at Earl of Sandwich. Wonderful as always. DH and I had ham and cheese sandwich and tomato soup, kids had the Cannonball (meatball) sandwich. DS had a smoothie. The sandwiches were wonderful (as always); tomato soup was remarkably good with croutons on top.

12/22
Lunch: Cosmic Rays
– Once again with Q&C Vouchers. DS and I shared ribs and chicken with mashed potatoes, carrots and dessert. DH and DD had hot dog meal. We learned that DD did better with her own kid’s meal and DH really wasn’t happy sharing. He is a big eater. Ribs were a little fatty, but chix and potatoes were very good. Hot dog meal was only time we didn’t get our money’s worth out of voucher.
Dinner: Whispering Canyon Café – PS at 5:50. Seated on time. We loved the atmosphere. DD had chix and ff; DS had chix and pasta dish, DH had meatloaf and I had grouper. I thought the food was fine. We got there just as they were holding pony races. I hadn’t pre-warned my kids about the place, so they needed a little time to warm up to it. So they didn’t participate in this race. No problem, they can do the next one. Unfortunately, due to Christmas carolers in the lobby, no more races before we left.

Our waitress did an adequate job, but we had to prod her into the fun stuff. Nobody got hats made from the bandanas until we specifically asked. DH ordered a large diet coke and got a mason jar that had to be at least a gallon with a huge straw. We all got a kick out of that.

The waiter at the table next to us was much funnier. He kept introducing “new table” to “old tables”. They had a ball. They had a slight confusion. Waiter couldn’t understand what they were ordering “did you say porn?” – no she said “corn”, but too funny. Would definitely go there again.

12/23

Lunch: ABC Commissary - Q&C Vouchers used. DS and I shared the Cuban sandwich meal. (Very blah), let me order extra fries as a side dish. DH had fish and chips; his side dish was fruit (3 pieces of pineapple). DD had chix and ff (please notice trend). Nothing memorable about this lunch.
Dinner: RFC – AK – Went here to use VKL vouchers (1 adult, 1 child) since we had heard they were such a good deal. Were seated right away with PS. Waiter perked up some when he saw vouchers, but got almost obnoxious pushing the most expensive foods. Suggested smoothies for the kids, which they enjoyed. All 4 of us shared the following: Appetizers of crab cake and fried mozz. sticks, for an entrée DH had a combo platter with chix, shrimp skewers, and ribs, I had filet and shrimp. Waiter pushed steak and lobster, but we don’t prefer lobster and DH didn’t want a steak. We also ordered an extra order of french fries. Crab cake was very good, mozz. sticks were same as everywhere else in the world. French fries came next. Everyone shared them (not my original plan). As for dinner, My steak was ok (a little undercooked), I gave ½ of the steak to my DS and the fried shrimp to my DD, she wasn’t thrilled, potatoes were very good. DH shared ribs with DD and shrimp with DS. DS also had some of my mashed potatoes, as did DH. For dessert we shared a volcano. Food was okay, but we really felt that waiter was much too pushy trying to get big tip out of vouchers. Don’t plan any return trips in the near future.

12/24
Lunch: LeCellier – VKL vouchers used here. DS and I shared cheddar soup and filet entrée, DH had same. DD ordered hamburger off kid’s menu. DH had club cake to go, we all shared the apple/cranberry cobbler. Everything here was amazing. Waitress did wonderful job (Priscilla). Cream cheese mashed potatoes were very yummy. Even the kid’s burger was awesome. Obviously hand ground burger. Plan to return ASAP.
Dinner: Alfredo’s (CP Package) – 8:00 PS after 5:00 CP. Too much lag time, especially on a very cold night. We were seated right on time. DS had kids Alfredo; DD had spaghetti and meatballs. DH had Caesar salad and lasagna; I had tomato and buffalo mozz. salad with sampler plate. Kids had ice cream, I had tiramisu and I don’t remember DH’s dessert. We felt it was all very good. It was a loud restaurant, but good food.

12/25
Lunch: Tusker House – Used the meal deal here. DD had mac/cheese; DS had chix leg and potatoes; DH had chix sandwich and I had salmon. All were very good (I was very pleasantly surprised in quality of the salmon). We then grabbed 4 bottles of soda to go and ate our ice cream on the way out of the park (in the pouring rain and 40 degrees).
Dinner: Chef Mickey’s – Had PSs for 8:00. Had a little wait. Great interaction with characters. Food that we had was very good. Marinated seafood salad was incredible. Salmon was good, chix was excellent, and potatoes were okay. I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t anything Christmassy on the carving station, or anywhere else. Too full for dessert.

12/26
Lunch: Beaches and Cream – Had 2 Q&C vouchers left and wanted to use before we left. Everyone raves about food here, so we decided to give it a try. Okay, nothing wonderful. DD had chix and ff. DH had cheese dog and onion rings, DS and I shared double cheeseburger with extra bun and onion rings. We also shared chocolate malt while DH had some kind of chocolate cake. Burger was okay – really not impressed. DH said hot dog was good. Onion rings were good. Malt was really bad – prefer ones from Baskin Robbins. Cake was dry. Won’t try this again.

All in all, vouchers were nice to have for pre-paid food. I wasn’t concerned about getting the most expensive food. Just wanted to break even – which we did. DS and I shared most meals so we weren’t stuffed with dessert too.

Sorry this is so long – thanks for hanging around.

Thank you for your great reviews! We have never eaten at WCC even when we stayed at the WL. It's on must must do list for next trip because it sounds like fun.
