dinged credit card for incorrect date

First time posting here and I hate it to be a complaint. We are going in September for a 10 day stay at the Poly. I made all my ADR right at the six month mark on the phone. I gave my credit card (actually my debit card) for the restaurants that needed it. One of these was Narcoosees. Unfortunately the individual who scheduled us for Narcoosees put in the wrong date. She put it in for May instead of September. Since our trip was four months away we got dinged $10 for each of us for a total of $50 and since it was my debit card - the money is out of my account.

I do understand mistakes can be made so I wasn't too angry but getting it fixed was a bit of a pain. It took three calls to finally get someone who could help. After explaining what happened they did agree to refund the $50 but it will take 14 days to hit my account! They were really efficient in yanking it out - why don't they have the same level of efficiency in returning it?

I got all the confirmation numbers and should have checked each one but I just placed my trust in the system. Luckily that was the only one that had an error.

BTW Narcoossees is now booked for that night.

Error is fixed and money is being refunded. Problem solved and crisis averted. Time to enjoy your upcoming trip. :woohoo:

I know it doesn't help now but will for September; you can check your dining online all at once on disney's website. If the ADRs aren't there, under your screen name, all you have to do is put in one confirm # & phone # and they should all appear, at least they do for me. So they can be easily checked now &/or before you go in September.
But thats why I make all my ADRs online, its easier and you can only blame yourself for mistakes.

I think the 14 days is an estimate and it has do with your bank more than anything. On our last trip we switched from room only to a package when we received a pin code and needed to be refunded my original 1 night’s room deposit. They said 14 days for the refund and it was in my account within 48 hours. So hopefully you will have the same quick experience. Enjoy your trip!!!:thumbsup2

Unfortunately Disney isn't fully in control of when you get your money back - they have to work with your bank. Some banks have policies that hold money being returned for a certain period of time so that's why they have to say it could take 14 days. Hopefully it won't!! I'm so glad they were able to get you a Narcoosees ressie for the correct night

Hope you get your money in a timely manner. Just want to let you know..I work in the operations department at a bank and Disney returning your money has absolutely nothing to do with your bank. It has to do with Disney's credit card processor. Banks have no control over how quickly you get a refund from someone else. Just my 2 cents.

You will likely see that money in about 3 business days. Disney will tell you 14 days as a worst case scenario, however, in my experience, transactions are typically processed within 3 days. :thumbsup2

On another note, this is exactly why I use a credit card for stuff like this where a hold is put on something. We don't carry a credit card balance but will use it for a hold because a mistake transaction on a credit card is a lot less stressful than one on our debit card that affects our "real money". Hope you get your money back soon! :goodvibes

Banks can't control how quickly the refund is processed but they sure can control the time it takes to redeposit in your account.

My friend booked a Disney trip for Spring Break and had her plans change so she went to rebook for this summer. She cancelled all her ADRs including 3 prepays and 3 holds. Her account showed pending deposits for 3 business days, which irritated her something awful -- we're talking about a few hundred dollars. When she finally called the bank to find out what was going on the bank explained that with the multiple withdrawls and credits, it took longer to verify the transaction.

And, from my personal experience, I had a bank take 3 days to deposit a cashier's check into our account... which almost cost us the sale of our house. There is no reason a cashier's check should take that long to deposit as the nature of the check is to verify funds. Needless to say, I am no longer a customer of that financial institution.

As for my cancelled ADRs, it took 3 business days from calling Disney to it showing up in my account. Hoping it's similar for OP

Financially speaking yes, but she didn't get the ADR she took the time to advance book

Seems like due to the CM error, couldn't you call and ask a supervisor to put you on a waiting list or something to accommodate your losing your ADR? Good luck

Just to let you know...banks cannot put a hold a cashier's check. If your bank did..then they were breaking the law. Also, banks do not control when a charge hits your account, it is the credit card processor sending it to us. They put a date on the transaction as to when it will post not the bank. Companies will always tell the customer that it is the bank, because they do not want to take the responsibility.

An unfortunate mistake but they do happen. I made a similar mistake when I did my ADRs online. I started to book something then realized it was for May rather than September.

I've always been told it can take up to 2 weeks to get refunds into my bank account but rarely does it actually take that long.

And while it's something of a hassle, just keep checking that Narcoossee reservation. Lots of people have luck with cancellations.

I apologize for grouping V/MC/AE and all the others with banks -- I do understand that often with debits it's not the bank but the actual credit card company... I lumped them into banks as they are all financial institutions. I just know in my friend's situation we both cancelled ADRs the same day (which is why we were talking about it) and my credit was returned A LOT faster than hers and I can't imagine Disney batching out part of a day and not the rest.

And, as for the bank doing something illegal with my cashier's check, it isn't the first time they did something untoward to us and it was definitely the last time. I find it amazing what banks often get away with and am just glad to be done with that particular institution.

As for the OPs situation, I think one of the best pieces of advice on the board is not to use debit cards to hold any deposits on food/hotel at Disney and to switch over or pay cash when you get there. For the prepay meals, it can be a pain, but having money hanging in 'Neverland' is worse!

I also second checking the ADRs daily. We are a party of 7 next trip and couldn't get GG at 180 days... or 120... or 100. It finally opened up for us a few weeks ago. I've also noticed as I look at availability now that our trip is close a lot of things are opening up as people cancel/change trips, change ADRs, and whatnot.

Such is life….and not just at Disney! When an error like this is made anywhere money gets charged without hesitation, but refunding it is never as easy. Fortunately they were able to fix their errors and you will be refunded. I take situations like this and think “if this is the worst thing that will happen on my vacation, I have had a pretty damn good one”!

Actually banks can put holds on cashiers checks. The bank I worked at did but only if we suspected fraud or the issuing bank would not verify the check.

I'm having a similar situation. I had to call (Online ADR system was down) to reserve CRT for lunch and the only time available was 12:55, which is a little late for us, but I didn't have much of a choice, so I booked it and since it's a pre-pay, I paid for the whole meal with my debit card. Then I got online later and thought I'd just check and there was a 12:05 available, so I went to switch it and it basically cancelled my first ressie and made the new one. It charged my card again, and I have 2 charges on my account. I called them to get it all worked out (30 minute phone call) and they said I should see the refund for the cancelled ADR within 10 days. It's been 8 days, and still no refund on my account.

In the future you might consider booking using a credit card if possible rather than a debt card. At least with a credit card you can dispute the charge without having to pay anything before the dispute is settled.

keep up the faith...keep trying for a ressie. People cancel...People have incorrectly booked dates! Heck someone gobbled up your incorrect May ressie shortly after yours was cancelled I'm sure! So keep trying! We went on our 1st trip in Feb this year. I cancelled a dinner at Brown Derby while on our trip and I just randomly asked "hey are there any ressies for CRT by chance for tomorrow?" It was the only day we had a free day to do it. Guess what, they had a breakfast ressie available with less than a 24hr notice! So keep your head up, keep trying!!!:thumbsup2
