DING-Many questions AM I DENSE OR WHAT??

I am having hard time understanding DING:

1. Are DING rates only shown to those who have DING installed. Do the show in the promotional rate on regular SWA site?

2. Can you book the DING rate and then cancel your original and get the credit?

3. Do you have to cancel your current res and then book the DING one and ask for the credit?

4. Another poster stated you can just change in travel centre, but can you change a regular promotional rate to a DING rate there, as it states in SWA info you have to have DING application.

I am trying to figure out if it is worth taking a chance if a DING rate comes up to change my res as I am worried I may end up having to book a flight at a higher cost then what I currently have at present.

Maybe need a FAQ thread just on SWA and Ding. Unless there is one as I am a newbie.

I have not had the opportunity to apply DIng as yet so I can only answer one of your questions.
You can only apply the Ding fares if you have Ding installed. You have to go through the Ding pop up to obtain the discount. It is not available on the SW website.

Not on the regular site. If you can't install DING at work someone can cut and paste the current link for the promotion so you can book. I've done that twice for people.

Yes, but then you'll have a credit for the full amount you paid for your first flight. You'll have one year from the date you made your first reservation to use it.

3. Do you have to cancel your current res and then book the DING one and ask for the credit?

If you cancel your current reservation first you can use your credit to book your DING flight, your credit will be for the difference of fare. Some people open a second browser window. Book the DING fare and right before you have to pay for it switch to the other window and cancel your current flight. You can use the credit to pay for your DING flight.

Not with a DING fare.

The second browser window will but all but eliminate the risk. You're not canceling your current reservation until you're booking the DING. If you fly SW a few times a year then having the full credit isn't the end of the world.

Another option if you have access to a phone line while you are online is to call SWA directly and have an agent walk you through step by step. This is what I did on Friday since I've never flown SWA before.
