Having been to Disneyland more times than I can recall, I am not that interested into things at WDW that are also in Disneyland, like Soarin'. However, I know that the rides that are located in both parks are not identical.

For those of you familiar with both DL and WDW, which rides can be skipped at WDW as "been there done that" and which are different enough that the WDW version should me a "must do"?

There are 2 rides in WDW that I think are superior to their DLR counterparts and they also happen to be 2 of my favorites.

Haunted Mansion
Tower of Terror

I think Splash Mountain is better at WDW than at DL.

Must do rides:
Expedition Everest in AK
Rock n Roller Coaster in DHS.

You will be disappointed in:
Space Mountain
Pirates of the Caribbean
It's a Small World (Their outside building isn't as cool as DL)

Definitely skip Space Mountain, I HATE this ride at WDW, but LOVE it at DL! Skip Pirates, and skip It's a Small World. The rest....go and experience it! I prefer DL to the Magic Kingdom, but WDW as a whole much better than the DL experience. But for me, a big part of it is the nostalgia. There is actually a thread on here somewhere that is DL for WDW vets, it may help going the other way too! Have fun!

Let's see... Muppets, Tough to be a bug, and Soarin are identical. Then there are ones that are obvious - Dumbo, Astro orbitor, carousel, autotopia, tea cups ect. Then there are ones that are very close - tiki, BTMRR, jungle cruise, pooh, ect.

Along with what others have said, I think Pooh is better at WDW, and PLUS, you should do Country Bear Jamboree since it was closed at DL to make way for the pooh attraction.

I agree about Space Mtn, but, its SO different than DL it is worth doing, but its not high tech and nearly as good as DLs version.

Pirates is (IMO) the biggest loser compared to DL.

For the most part, I LOVE DL for the saving of my feet and energy since things are all in one are (for the most part). However, the thing you'll love about WDW is the magical feeling of it. At DL things are crammed in due to space limitations, and you know you're right off of the interstate as well. Also the castle is pretty small at DL compared to WDW.

I basically say WDW was everything that Walt wished DL could be (in terms of feel and visuals) that he couldn't make happen at DL. WDW is the ultimate "dream" feel. You feel lost in it when there and feel depressed to go back to reality when you leave. I find that DL just misses that bit.

Having been to both parks as well, I really liked its a small world in DL much better than WDW.

Call me crazy!!!

I like Splash Mt. better at WDW and it seems different since you are in a 2 seat vehicle.

Space Mt. is only a one-seater and is better at DL.

Big Thunder is similar but I liked it better at DL.

I actually like ToT better at DL, but wouldn't think of missing it any trip.

Toy Story Mania is similar but worth doing just to see the queue line at WDW.

Winnie the Pooh is better at WDW, Peter Pan is similar, Mad Tea Party is under a canopy and much bigger, Dumbo is the same, and Small World is better at DL because I like the incorporation of the Disney characters.

PoC is also better and much longer at DL. Can't say for sure about HM since we were there when they had the Nightmare Before Christmas theme at DL.

Skip Soarin' since it is the same ride and has long wait times.

I'm another DLR vet, but I've been to WDW three times, most recently in December of 2009. Here are my thoughts:

Magic Kingdom -- You'll love it
-- See Mickey's Philharmagic in Fantasyland for sure. It's a great show.
-- As others have said, Splash Mountain is worth doing for the side-by-side seating.
-- The Haunted Mansion is fun and different in that it doesn't have the gallery corridor between the stretch rooms and the doom buggies. It's not needed at WDW, because guests don't have to be moved under the berm to a distant show building.
-- Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor is a fun show...
-- ...As is Stitch's Great Escape. A lot of people hate it, actually, but it's worth seeing for a west-coaster taking a rare trip to WDW.
-- The PeopleMover. WDW still has theirs!
-- The Country Bear Jamboree... if you must.

Magic Kingdom -- meh
-- Pirates of the Caribbean is a disappointment at WDW.
-- Peter Pan's Flight is okay, but not as good as DLR.
-- Space Mountain doesn't have side-by-side seating and isn't as fun (but it's still wirth doing).

The other rides at Magic Kingdom are comparable to their DLR counterparts... good and bad.

Epcot
With the exception of Nemo and Friends, which is inferior to the Submarine Voyage at DLR, you'll love everything at Epcot unless you have really young children in your group. And Mission Space is almost worth the trip to Orlando on its own.

Disney Hollywood Studios
-- The Tower of Terror has a cool twist in that the cars actually travel forward to reach the drop shaft. Worth experiencing for sure.
-- Rockin Roller Coaster is worth doing; very different from California Screamin' but just as good.
-- Fantasmic is better at DLR, I think. Eisner's regime foisted more recent (at the time) movies and villains into the show at the expense of some of DLR's classics, and the riverboat segment is lame, lame, lame.

Animal Kingdom
-- Dinosaur is the technological twin of Indiana Jones, but it's very different, and cool.
-- Expedition Everest is a must do. As much as I love The Matterhorn Bobsleds after all these years, it's a pimple compared to Everest.
-- Kilimanjaro Safaris is in some ways the real point of this park. Don't miss it.

Side note to all: a lot of people say they prefer Winnie the Pooh at WDW, and I can't figure out why. I kinda thought the versions were the same. No?

Have fun!

Astro Orbiter is NOT the same at DL as at WDW. WDW's is much better.
Don't forget the Wedway People Mover. Another lost treasure at DL, but still alive at the World.

Don't forget about Carousel of Progress, also a carry over from Disneyland.

DL's Autopia is better than WDW Speedway. Pirates at DL is much better than at WDW. Jungle Cruise is different at WDW and worth a visit. Also, the Swiss Family Treehouse is still at WDW.

Enchanted Tiki Room is back at WDW, but DL's version is much better.

IMHO, having been to DL every year when I was a teen for corporate parties, DWD is the best! TOT is better at WDW, SM is better at DL, Soarin' is the same, POC is best at DL due to more drops to get under the railroad, and otherwise everything else is similar. Of course, no Matterhorn at WDW, but EE at AK in WDW are some minor differences. My biggest observation…..WDW is spread out with lots more green space than DL which has much more asphalt. DL is WED's dream, but WDW is WED's perfection. Not to mention much more "resort" feel at WDW. Of course, YMMV.
