just read on another Disney board that the diner plan would be an obligation next year.

So when you book at a Disney resort you MUST take and pay for the diner plan.
personnel I think this is nonsense but any else heard of this rumour?

Well it does sound daft to me. It would make people not want to stay on resort.

I've not heard that rumor. Just that the price will go down very slightly, but no appetizers and no tips will be included. Also that there will be a "deluxe" plan and a wine plan. I honestly doubt they'd make people staying onsite buy the DDP.

Impossible. That would eliminate room-only reservations and FORCE everyone to book packages. What site?

I just called with WDW and I got a very vaguely answer.

"We are chancing some things but you have to wait until the new prices are on line".
That is not an answer that puts my mind at ease :confused3

No way, BUT I could envision PIN codes only being applicable to package reservations that include dining.

Look at this logically, the restaurants don't have enough capacity for the number of guests who currently purchase the dining plan.

There are 30,000 Disney-owned hotel rooms. Suppose two guests per. That's 60,000 people. Does anyone think that the total TS capacity on resort is 60,000 meals per day?

Look at what happens during free dining. The restaurants are completely over-run, yet the parks and resorts still aren't full, nor is everyone who is there actually on the plan.

If everyone HAD to have a DDP the resturants would not be able to cope, with only some people having it they are struggling. I don't think they would do this.
