We are planning a Christmas trip for our family for Christmas of 2013. We plan to book a GV for the 4 of us so each of our adult offspring gets their own room. The problem is that we want to switch at the 7 month window to a GV at AKV. Our son has never stayed there, and he really wants to stay at AKV that trip. Since I only have a minimal number of AKV points, I'll need to use OKW points for the lion's share of the ressie. My question is if this type of thing is something I can easily do online, or am I better off calling to have a MS rep work on it? Part of me says I want that hour of early booking I'd get on the member site, but I'm wondering if it's going to be too complex what with cancelling one ressie, making a new one and using points from all 3 contracts.

Anybody done something similar?

PS, I do NOT have enough points to book without cancelling the existing ressie first.

in all honesty, if you secure a GV at one resort at Christmastime you are fortunate & to switch at 7 months you do take a gamble. we tried this. we own enough points at multiple contracts & hold that GV at popular times. my dh, i cringe, when he decides he would like to move because we lose it. my answer is we get the luck of the draw. the moment we cancel, we don't know what can happen & ms also can't control inventory at that exact moment either. have you ever considered looking at the rent/trade board? best wishes to you that you may get AKV, the GV is fun. even if you do a split stay, try that. :hyper:

Actually, we plan to try for the AKV GV at 7 months no matter what. I know I will get the OKW GV at 11 months. If we can only get part ov the week at the AKV GV, so be it. My question was if anyone felt it could be done online, or if that was too big a risk.

I don't eve care if it is at Jambo or Kidani. I prefer Kidani, but don't really care.

I am assuming that you will need points from your OKW reservation to be be able to make the AKV reservation. You have two issues doing it on-line. First, you need to cancel the prior reservation on-line before attempting a new reservation and thus you risk the AKV villa disappearing during the time between cancellation and making the new reservation and thus risk ending up with no reservation. Second, if only some of the AKV nights are open, you cannot make just a partial change where you cancel some of the OKW nights and replace them with AKV nights because the online system does not allow canceling some nights of a reservation to replace them with another resort. Calling MS avoids both those issues.

I think I would plan a split stay. I would book the GV at OKW for as many days as I want and then at 8AM try for the AKV GV. At that point, you'll know what's what. Since there are more OKW's GV's I would use my 2 waitlists, one at OKW (if I had to) and one at AKV. I would book 2 bedrooms where available until 1 waitlist came through.

Still you may be lucky, I have no idea!

That was my plan, Bobbie, but it seems like such a great risk if I cancel days of the OKW GV before I know that I can get the AKV one. That's why I think I might be better off calling at 9:00. Of course, then I run the risk of not getting AKV at all. I think what I'm going to do is book the OKW GV at 11 months, and TRY to rebook AKV GV at 7 months online. If I don't get the first couple of days, I'll stay put.

Another option is to take my two years of AKV points (not many) and just book 2 days in the AKV GV at 11 months and finish the week at OKW. Then at the 7 month window, it might be easier to just add days to the two I already have booked at AKV. That way the worst case scenario is that we have to switch resorts after 2 nights.

I think this is the option I would go for. At least that way you know you will get your AK GV and also you know that you have somewhere to stay whatever happens!

I would definitely call on this one. I wouldn't trust the availability to be there even a minute after you see it online. Good luck. :goodvibes

Yeah, that's my gut feeling too, but I wanted to ask in case someone else had done something similar with online booking.

So, what are you going to do?

I'm trying to decide about an April trip. I have 5 nights BWV, but want 2 there and 3 at BCV. What I want is available now, but I still have 2 weeks before I can use BWV points at BCV. I think I'm going to cancel the nights that I don't want at BWV, and then go online at 7 months to book the other 3 days. I really want BCV. I hope we're both lucky!

i think the time of year you are looking to travel is going to make a difference. somehow i have a feeling you will get it but here's a little pixiedust just in case pixiedust:

Well, Thank you!:goodvibes I'll let you know in 2 weeks!

I wouldn't take the chance with on-line, I would call just to sure that nothing goes wrong! You would hate to lose OKW GV and then not get AKV's in the shuffle! Though I will admit to being pleasantly surprised that my last 3 on-line reservation went through like a charm!

Good Luck!

I think I'm going to book 2 nights of AKV GV online at the beginning of my 11 month booking window in January. Then 2 days later, I'll book an OKW GV for 7 nights. At the 7 month window, I'll check availability online before I call MS and have THEM do the change from OKW to AKV. I just hate the thought of losing what I already have if I try to do it online.
