As some of you are aware i doing my own extension, i am just doing the roof now.the dilemma is should we make it one big room or stick with 2 rooms.if we went with 1 room it will be a big one appropriately 60m2.The thing is DW is always watching the design programs and stile now is for a big room with the kitchen, dinning and living space all in one, we will have a separate utility off this room and i am making it well soundproofed so noise form kitchen utilities will be minimal,it will make a few things easy as less doors to move inside but still the walls will come down to enlarge the old kitchen dinning rooms. What do you think?

Personally I prefer seperate kitchen and living rooms - quieter rooms and no nasty kitchen smells (also you can ignore the washing up if you want :rotfl:).

With the extension as two rooms will you still have a lounge and will the kitchen be big enough for a small table/sitting area? If you have a lounge and the kitchen cannot take a small table/sitting area then make it one big room. I like the idea of having a social kitchen so when family and friends visit we can all talk and cooking can be done at the same time.

We live in a typical 1930's semi. When we were planning our extension I bought every house programme going like your DW. We have a large extension across the back with the kitchen at one end and the dining area at the other. The bit leading off the dining area (like an L shape) is the original back room of the house (which would have been the old dining room) we use as a family cum toy room.
Personally this space works for us as I don't ever feel out of the way of the kids if they are playing and we can all be doing our own thing. We have a TV on the chimney breast in the back room on a pull out arm so if I am at the island I can watch the TV or even if we are at the dining area. You need to think about how you want to use the space. I have kept the front room as a front room whereas neighbours have also taken out this wall too.
Good luck!

like you ours is a L shaped house.we have gone out 2.4 metres all the way round then were taking back and some of the side wall down.we will still have an original front room of 24m2
