Ok need some help, have just managed to convince DH that staying onsite at POR with free dining next year was a fab deal, I have looked at vaious prices and found TCD being the cheapest if we do package, great :thumbsup2 I thought, we discussed this and DH flatly refuses to travel in Virgin plane as the price is for economy and premium seats are far beyond our price range, he remembers the economy from TCD when we went before and didnt like it as too squashed etc etc, I have priced First choice with their premium seats and price cheapest from Manchester, so what do I do:

1. Divorce him!!!
2. convince him about Virgin
3. pay way more to travel First Choice
4. or go DIY but surely same dilemma re seats!

Please help ; looking to go beg Oct next year 2 ads and 2 teens.

divorce him lol no seriously if he wont travel virgin it looks like paying more.

dh is a pain like this he wont pay alot for premium but whinges for 9 hours straight if hes cramped in economy lol

we are going economy on thomson in ten days, Im gonna buy some ear plugs

Has he ever travelled Virgin before? The economy is ok, enough leg room and you get your own seatback tv with a choice of films. :goodvibes

Nope he just remembers what it was like to go in economy when we went with TCD, theres was a jumbo too from Glasgow, so as TCD are now Virgin and using their planes, he wont do it, last year when we went it was with First choice as TCD went bust, we were in premium seats and they were fab, but the cost involved this time is 4200 going premium from Man in POR for 2 wks inc car hire, free dining etc not counting park tickets, and 3800 to go from Glasgow ,POR inc car, free dining, but thats on a Virgin and I cant seem to convince him.

Last night i looked at Continental flights but I think the problem would be the same with regards to the seats s they too are economy seats, do anyone know if they are bigger or would it be as cramped as virgin?

Think divorce is the only option!!!

If you know what type of plane these companies use you can have a look at http://www.seatguru.com this will give you an idea of seat pitch and widths. I am 6' 2" and find the 32' pitch seats ok. but I would rather be that little bit cramped for 9 hrs than pay for an over expensive upgrade, gives us more spare cash to enjoy in the World.

divorce him and take me with you instead - i promise not to moan about the legroom with virgin:thumbsup2

Will you want to travel in economy again after August?

Wayne if i can get 2 weeks of florida sunshine i would walk there let alone travel in economy lol !!! Seriousley though we are a bit worried we might be spoilt, could have saved us a load this trip but end up costing me a fortune n the future!

Tell him that the Virgin flights are scheduled flights, in the same aircraft as used for manchester and Gatwick flights.

You can always get to the airport early and try for the extra legroom seats available, or keep a look out for cheap PE upgrades

Free booze, seatback Tv's, ice creams whilst watching the film, into a "proper" airport (not trying to get people arguing about Sanford vs Orlando, just as a USP to the OP's partner)

Hi my DH loves having extra room, with the virgin flights if you do the twilight check in you can maybe get exit row seats with lots of room for £50 pp per way.I like the idea of PE but would rather spend the money in the parks.:banana::banana:

Good luck.:)

when we going Cheryl so i can make sure i get the time of work - oh and i better tell the wife aswell:rotfl2:

Haha as long as i can bring my boys too , oh its beg of october and dont be late....

Thanks Obi, told him about the extra legroom seats, but think he stopped listening after " this one is a virgin flight from glasgow......" but i think I will try to wear him down and he might just give in. As far as i know Glasgow dont do twilight checkin in, think the flight leaves about 2pm on a sat, so we would be at airport early anyway, Do you know Obi if extra legroom seats are restricted to adults only, as we generally sit 2 infront of 2 so that boys have a window seat, stops them arguing ,they will be 16 and 13 at the time of travel.
Oh and glad to see you back too Obi:thumbsup2

hi cheryl,
No I don't think they are confined to adults only (Unless anyone knows different) as they are not emergency exit seats but rather normal seats with more leg room. they are in different places on different planes.

Thanks again , think i will try to wear him down and convince him!, i would rather have the extra baggage allowance and the much shorter journey home, than that 5 hrs drive back from manchester when you cant keep your eyes open!!

And the virgin flight is also a Jumbo which I love too!!

Tell him its the same plane, they rotate between Gatwick, manchester and Glasgow, will be one of the 747's

I think option 1 may prove to be very expensive for him so tell him that you are considering this and to go with Virgin will save him a fortune :rotfl2:
My DH is 6ft 2'' and in all the flights with Virgin he has never had any problems and has never moaned even when DS was little and used to climb all over him.
You can usually pre book your seats with Virgin so I would call them and just ask whether you are allowed to pre book the exit seats. This will just add weight to your argument if you can.

.

I am getting confused here, has he travelled with Virgin before as TCD uses Virgin planes as you know and are not TCD planes. We have always found the seats in economy perfectly alright, the males in my family are all about 6 foot tall and feel totally comfortable with the leg room. We are all find the width of the seats comfortable too. If you try and find a website with the pitches listed for all the planes you will be able to compare with the favourable ones your husband likes.

I would save the cost and go the cheapest way you can to be honest. We have never paid out for 'better' seats but then we have always found the seats to be totally okay in whatever plane we have travelled.
