Dilema - DC or Disney

OK, this is subjective, but I'll ask anyway.

As always, funds are limited. We're due to go in March 2004 and I'm researching tickets. The kids would love to swim with dolphins. They also want to eat at CP, 50's Prime Time, and Breakfastasaurus.

The question I'm asking myself is, should we go to DC and miss Disney altogether ? I'm considering doing this and seeing if I can find any of these "tour our resort and we'll give you Disney tickets" offers we were offered 999 times on our last visit. Has anybody done one of these tours ? How long does it take, and which tickets do you get ? There'll be 3 adults and 2 children. Will all 3 adults get tickets ?

Opinions please. It would be nice if somebody offered the £670 for DC, but I guess that's about as likely as finding fairies at the bottom of the garden !!!

My brother and his wife did this, but it was some time ago - back in 1996. They got tickets for Universal for enduring a 2 hour presentation. There was no hard sell, but the places were so fantastic, they almost bought in. Now that would be expensive!

It's usually only 2 adult tix for the presentation, although if you're a "different" family group may be the case they could do one presentation while you do another ( making 4 tix) but usually they will only do the presentation if both partners of a couple are attending. I've attended these presentations before and they did try to come on with the hard sell. I let 'em know pretty quickly that "hard sell" wasn't a tactic that was going to work ;) in fact there wasn't a tactic that was going to work LOL. You're looking at committing at least 3 hours maybe 4 by the time you drive there, breakfast ( usually they offer a "free" continental breakfast) and the presentation.

IMHO there are easier ways of earning $100 although if you did go ahead I would suggest leaving the kids with the third adult (if they are agreeable) around the pool and attending the sales pitch just as a couple. I don't think not bringing the kids would invalidate you receiving the park tix, but get that in writing if you go that route.

I think you'll find it hard to go without any Disney time, but it's certainly workable to use DC, 4 days at SW and keep Disney down to one day at MK and maybe one other Disney day if you are a regular visitor to Orlando, it certainly freshens you up for your next visit :) .

The only way I could afford that would be to sell my body for medical science. No on second thoughts, that wouldn't even pay for the keys !

I really am in 2 minds about this. In the 2 previous trips to Orlando we did a total of 15 days at Disney, so you could argue that we'd only be going over old ground. The presentations idea might just be a possibility. Vernon I liked the idea of leaving my girls with my mother for a while. In fact we could escape for the day and do some more adult orientated things. That sounds bad now I've re-read it, but you get my drift.

I still want to do Universal, if only because my wife has agreed to ride the Hulk rollercoaster. The kids want to go because they've heard about Shrek 4D, and for some reason they think there's some resemblance with me. Can't figure why.

I guess I'll have to make some sort of plan before deciding this one. Thanks for your feed back anyway.

Friends of mine did a dolphin swim in the Bahamas (I think) - a two centre holiday including Orlando. They opted for that instead of the DC version as they felt the SeaWorld one was a bit 'commercial' - very short time with the dolphins and done in a production line format(?). However, I have heard other people rave about the experience.

Personally, DC does look very expensive - the package looks attractive, but I'd rather spend the money on Disney - maybe one of their tours! :D Of course, the GF would rather spend it on 'pins'!

I couldn't surrender 3-4 hours of my holiday to sit through a timeshare presentation. Well, maybe DVC...

At least your holiday is several months off yet, plenty of chances to win the lottery...
