what has been your experiences booking directly with disney vs booking with a TA. i stick with the TA cause she is awesome, and i have dealt with her for years. BUT both she and i know that generally i am a bit more disney "savey" than her, esp when it comes to promos coming out, lol.. so i would not be missing that aspect of things.

my question is are the prices generally the same between the 2? if this deal is as good as some are suggesting, i am not so sure that i want to wait until she gets in late friday morning to make sure that i secure it. but, like i said before she is wonderful, so if i can give her the commision i would.

have you noticed a difference the pricing between the two???

thanks and here's for hoping that it is an UNBELIEVEABLE deal!!!!!!

Most TA's, I would assume, would be open for this offer. I know my TA usually stops working at 5pm but I already contacted her and she said she will be working until all her clients are taken care of this evening

There is no difference in the pricing. The only risk is not getting what you want because she will have to wait until the next day. Of course since we do not know what the deal is, it is hard to say what you want in the first place LOL.

If it turns out to be super deal I'd go ahead and book it myself then just transfer the reservation over to her later.

I always like to book my reservations myself. That way I am in control of it and if something better comes along I can just call and change. I have gone many times and always have booked my own reservations. I do this even with cruises and my many other trips. Sometimes various TA have their own cancellation policies etc and I really wouldn't want to deal with that either or just reaching them like your question.

I emailed my TA today to see if she had any additional info - here is her response...

Good Morning Stephanie,

I only heard that something will be released to us after 5:00pm today. They did not give us any details L IF they do put out a special, I will pull all my files for those dates (yours included) and check availability. It will be a brand new booking, so of course it has to be available in the new booking allotment. I will check 1st thing tomorrow morning J

So my question is do I just book a new trip myself tonight?? :confused3 I don't want to wait until tomorrow if it is that great of a deal.

I posted this on the Feb 2009 thread too...

We have our trip booked through AAA - 6 nights, CSR, 6-day park hoppers, with dining (have ADR's booked too). MY AAA TA is OUT OF TOWN 'til 11/17 - she has someone handling her clients while she's gone.

DO I call Disney and just book the trip myself, then cancel the AAA trip?

DO I call the AAA agent first and see if she can get the deal for my current trip (I realize I'll lose the AAA discount)?

If I call and book a trip myself and then cancel the AAA trip, do I lose all my ADR's or can I transfer them to the new trip?

HELP! And Thanks!

I am considering this - I understand that they get off at 5 - but shouldn't they also stay and help their clients?

That's hoping that they don't get off at 5!

Your ADR's are yours no matter what - they are not connected with your room reservations.

That's good to hear... (about the ADR's)

I just e-mailed the girl who is handling my AAA TA's reservations while she's out - I didn't hear back from her yesterday and I'll wait to hear from her today. If I hear nothing, then I will probably book a new reservation and just transfer it to my AAA TA when she gets back - As long as there's no charge to do that??????

To answer your question about booking yourseld, it depends on your TA policy for cancelling the first reservation. I would check that out first. You wouldn't want some type of cancellation fee with the TA, this is my reason for booking myself always. Call your TA or check out your paperwork from them. Good Luck!!

I would check to see if AAA will charge you cancellation fees first - they are known to do that

It seems that you aren't booked through one of the Disney speciliazed agencies like Small World Vacations (who I am booked with), Dreams, Your Magical Journeys and others that will be on the phone working to change your reservation no matter what time they are released

I would let her know you are concerned about the availability and if she could check tonight for you. Be upfront letting her know you will be booking this yourself if she cannot do it tonight

YOu can do this but there may be some type of charge from AAA. We always book directly with WDW if not for this type of thing alone. I check for any new savings myself and deal with WDW direct. It's much easier having fewer people involved for me.

basically all my TA does is the booking for us, anything additional from air, to car, to dining...i do all on my own. i think in a past life i was a TA not an RN, lol. i enjoy it that much :)

anyway, in essence, all i would be loosing is her calling them for me, i was just unsure where she is an employee at a nationwide travel company, if her deal would be "better" than my deal going direct with disney. i guess that does not seem to be the case. i believe that she is only working until 430 tonight, and i am fairly certain that she would be looking into it tomorrow morning, not tonight. i do have a call into her and she said she would call me back, but i am very much leaning towards just booking it myself.

as i have never gone direct to book with disney, does anyone know the policies for booking a package? is: down payment, when final payment is due, ect????

$200 to book a package/due 45 days before arrival. Room only, one night dep. full pmt upon arrival. For a package, if you make changes within the 45 days there is a $50 change fee, but in my experience if you add something-no charge. We added someone 2 weeks before arrival this Sept and no extra charge. With the room only 5 days for a cancellation to avoid charge. Also, with this we had to cancel 2 days room only res. in Sept due to a death in the family and cancelled 2 days prior to arrival and WDW did refund our 1 night deposit. This was very considerate of them I thought since they didn't have to. I have always had a great experience with booking directly with WDW (except one time this fall with another reservation but it worked out ok in the end) and have done so for many many years. During the times when WDW was first giving disounts for AP holders that I knew of They told us (before all the internet access)

Glad I am not the only one in this boat today, I don't feel so alone. :lmao:

My AAA agent is in the middle of the ocean on a cruise!! She will not be back until Monday.

I already have our 2 week package booked with her and almost paid off. I called to speak with a coworker of hers a moment ago. She seemed clueless and told me that I could wait a week before we left to go on the trip to add the code!!! This was even after I told her that we were thinking of upgrading from Value to Deluxe!! :confused3

So, I have decided that I am going to take a chance and book with Disney myself when the code comes out at 5pm today. I don't want to take any chances.

ARGH...it is just my luck that she would be on a cruise at a time like this. LOL

Any good TA will be working longer hours tonight IMO.

 I emailed my AAA agent last night twice  and already saw her when the office opened at 9. She's going to be on the phone with her disney contact at 350 cst so that she doesn't get held up at 4 and can get us the best deal possible. I've got a GREAT agent and am so happy that she's handling everything for me. I just hope it comes out as expected and not tonight when she's gone :( Best of luck to the rest of you...if it was me and my TA was gone I'd be booking my own new ressie and dealing with her when she got back.

Does anyone know the toll free number for Dreams Unlimited Travel and what their hours are?

I'm thinking it might be best to use a travel agent, but I can't find their number anywhere! I'd like to actually talk to someone while I book tonight.

Edit: Nevermind, it looks like they don't do reservations over the phone :(

yes - i have all my files at home and a list of new people who are interested ready to book ...and stuff to keep my 4yr old busy :)

IF you book on your own, you can always allow your travel agent to take over your ressie when he/she returns to the office!
