I have recently decided that I am going to switch from traditional scrapbooking to digital scrapbooking because I feel like I would be more consistent about completing projects if I do them on the computer.

Does anyone have any recommendations for books, websites, training videos, etc to help me get started? I am very computer proficient and have Adobe photoshop already installed on my computer.

I'm just not really sure where to begin...

Oh and one more question--when you are ready to print off your scrapbook pages, what company do you use?

Thanks,
Becky

I hope someone replies because I need help too! I too have photoshop but was thinking of buying memory mixer because I just don't think I could ever figure out photoshop (my husband uses it but all the layers just confuse me). I just don't even know what to do with kits or anything. It'a a whole new world!!!

Photoshop is wonderful for digital scrapbooking! There are many online tutorials to help you out, including those on YouTube. Go there and search for "digital scrapbooking tutorial." Also Google the samel. You will find a wealth of information.

I'm new to digital too and I use My Memories Suite Software. It's very newbie friendly. Someday I'd like to move up to Photoshop but this is a good start for me.

As far as printing, I use Shutterfly and order the 8X8 size books. They're still big enough to see well but cheaper than 12X12 books and they fit nicely on shelves. Shutterfly allows you to print full pages with no borders. I've been happy with their quality. In my PTR, I have a pic of my Disney album that just came in the mail. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2225315&page=9

I use Artscow for printing because their books are stitch bound. Shutterfly and Kodak use glued pages, which can come apart. I also like the 8x8!

I use the Creative Memories Storybook Plus software coupled with their Memory Manager photo editing/sorting program. I also have Photoshop Elements on both my pc and my Mac. The PSE program makes me crazy and feel like a blithering idiot. Not so, the SBC+

Cant help with the printing part. I just had some 8x8's printed at Costco for the first time (and was very pleased). I have heard good things about scrappingsimply.com

There is a huge (70 pages so far) thread here on the boards that discusses scrapbooking with the SBC+ program. You might want to go and read some.

Just looked at your book.

Shutterfly doesn't print on both sides of the paper in their photobooks? :confused3 I hadn't even thought of that. Not sure if I like that or not.

What about other companies? Do they print on both sides of paper for photo books?

shutterfly does print on both sides of the pages. I have several books from them and they have a thicker piece of paper (an extra piece) that is blank at the very front and then again at the very end. think of it as a transition paper. :)

Ditto!!

I haven't printed a whole album yet. I honestly plan to do that soon through CM's photo center. But I did print out some individual pages through Costco and liked them very much. They can do it in one hour or you can upload to the store and pick it up later - which I really like.

I printed out a 12x12 and an 8x8 and will definatly use them for just regular page prints.

have been happy with scrapbooksplease for printing 12x12 pages. :)

oh. Silly me. thanks for explaning.

I am a digital scrapper. I use ACdsee Photo Editor 2008 for most of my scrapping. It is very easier to use, and the layers (they are called objects in PE) are clickable- meaning that you just click on the object to edit/move/resize. Layers are much easier to deal with in Photo Editor than in PhotoShop.
I also use CS2- which os sometimes just to massive a program to use, especially when you are a beginner.

I keep my scrap stuff organized with Photo Manager-- love being able to view and tag my digital kits and photos with it.

I have used shutterfly and artscow for printing and gifts and have been happy with both, Mostly I just resize my lo's down to 8x8 and print them on my photo printer at home.
