Digital photos underwater!!!

Jane,
When you put the camera in, there is a lever inside with a movable piece of orange plastic. You adjust the orange piece to press down on the camera button. The lever extends through the side of the box so that you can depress it outside the box. Does that make sense?

Mark,
Dh had a great time with the camera case. You would be surprised how secure and sturdy this case is. You do have to take your time and make sure it is closed, but otherwise, it did a great job.

The biggest problem with the case is that you have to turn on the camera before you put it in the case. So that means you have to secure it right before you are ready to use it.

Hello,
I honestly like my regular film camera, my Canon Elf. I get Much Better action shots. With my digital, which is a nice Pentax Optio, I cannot get Any action shots. With kids, it is very disappointing not being able to capture the action.

For the past nine years, whenever I had my film developed I opted for the Digital option - It used to be placed on a floppy disk, but they've been putting them on CD's for the past few years. So I get regular Paper Pictures AND a digital option, a Photo CD.

Now I have a whole library, 9 years full of pictures, where I have every single picture I've ever taken Already in digital format. If I want to use it for a computer application, I just pop in the CD (or the ol' floppy disk!).
It costs a little more, but think about how much you spend for ink (My Epson is about $50 for color and black), photo paper and not to mention your time.

When you take your pictures on a digital camera, you place them onto your computer where they sit until you print them out, If you do ever wind up printing them out. Most people just leave them there and maybe print out a few.
With the Photo CD option with regular film developing, you get the Best Of Both Worlds- Photos in Digital Format And Paper Photos for your photo albums or frames.

When I got my new computer, I had to take a few days and place every single photo I had on my hard drive and put it on a floppy disk (I didn't have a cd burner on my old computer).
Now that I have a burner, I burn my photos when I can, but I'm still not that diligent. That's why I still opt for Regular film with a CD option for all my vacation pictures.

When we take our cruise in April, I'm stocking up on the underwater cameras - 35mm- and have them developed at the store and get the optional CD. When we went on our honeymoon, we went snorkeling and the pictures of the fish and the ocean floor came out beautifully :lovestruc I know the downside will be that I won't be able to see my pictures right away, but I can live with that.

BTW, is there any digital camera out there that takes instantaneous action shots like a regular camera?:scratchin

I know there are some that will disagree with me, but all I know is after years of trial and error with digital photography and trying to figure out what is best for me, I have found that regular film developing with a CD option is best.::yes::

Corryn,

Well, actually, yes there is a digital that takes immediately. Dh just got a Sony DSC-F828 Cyber shot. I don't know much about cameras, but it is pretty cool.

It takes pictures in complete darkness that look like there is light. I will take continuous ones, ie I was jumping up and down and it is like looking at the individual pictures of a reel of film.

I've been trying to hide the last few days, because he seems to be lurking around all the corners. LOL

Personally, we like the digital for both underwater and as a regular camera. We are the type of people who still have 35mm film sitting in a drawer. We hate to pay for developing and have awful pictures!!!! LOL

It also is great because you can simply dump the bad ones, which of course is awesome on vacation.

We do down load to the computer and print about half. Let's face it, how many fish pictures can you have. We had more underwater last time then "land".

Whoa! That's some camera!!!:earseek: But I lose cameras :guilty: so I doubt my dh would let me get a super awesome camera like that.
Good Luck with it, and I hope to see your pictures on the DISBoards!

Wow, that sounds like a great camera. I might have to check it out before our cruise next week. Right now I have a Canon PowerShot G1 Digital Camera, but there seems to be a lag when pushing the shutter button and actually taking the picture. I'm also having some problems taking pics at night so your Sony sounds great. Thanks for posting about it.

Reneé

The shutter lag was one of the reasons alot of people didn't like digital camera's. The Canon G1 came out in 2000, they now have the Canon G6 but that is a 7mp and you may not need that. If you research digital camera's and get one of the newer models, you'll find the shutter response much improved.

Also most digital camera's have a continuous mode or burst mode meaning that you can take numerous shots in a row. I've used this and it works well. I have pics of my son throwing the soccer ball in starting from when the ball is behind his head, to when he's about to release it, to when it's in the air and his arms have followed thru and then finally he's off and running. Another one I took was jumping off the diving board and I have several shots of him starting at the end of the end of the board to in the air, then lower close to the water and finally hitting the water.

Like all technology, as soon as you buy something, they come out with another one. Do some research and get one with the features that is good at what you will be using it for.

There are several websites that review dig cameras and will give you great information about the features and how they compare etc. I'll post the sites if anyone is interested.

Can you please post the websites? Also, I only use the camera to take pics of my DD and nothing fancy (just normal vacation use for daytime and nighttime). Are there any out there that you would recommend for a decent price?

Thanks,

Reneé

thunderrd,

You are so right about something new coming out as soon as you get the latest, just like computers. Lol

Dh said he wouldn't need a new camera now for quite a while. Yeah right!!!! Do you think I should get him to put that in writing?

In addition to the cont. mode (or whatever it is,I'm not the camera person!), the shutter response is really great on this one. The shutter lag on other cameras is the reason my pictures are let's say, unusual. I'm not very patient and I seem to move before it actually takes the picture. So, I am hoping this camera is not to complicated for me. Technology just isn't up my alley. I'll leave that to dh.

In August of 2002 I bought a *New* Hitachi DVD camcorder. Oh, it was state of the art, with recordings on mini DVD's. It was $998! This was the first camcorder I had ever purchased, but since it was new and innovative and I figured would last a while, I bought it.
Now that I need it for making a movie of the Fifth graders, I can no longer purchase the Movie Making software that was offered when I originally bought it - and it's only two years old!!! Since then many other mini-DVD models have come out. Hitachi doesn't even have it on their website anymore, it's too "old".

That is the last time I purchase something New and Innovative. I'll just wait until New and Innovative become Every Day and Ordinary........

Like your husband, I don't think I'll have the nerve to ask My husband for a New Camcorder! In fact, we just finished paying for the Three Year Warranty - by the time that expires, my camera will be Five years old - my Gosh, it'll be, like, as old as the Dinosaurs, technology wise!

They may be "old" but sometimes they work great!!! We still have our first camcord, you know the ones that look like movie cameras or the big boom boxes!!!! Is this dating me? We got it when our ds was a baby.

It may be big and clunky, but it still works great!!! We do have a new one, I'm sure ds-14 today!!! would be really embarrassed to see us videotaping with it!!!!

Lorie

When DS brings home his first date, put on your old 80's clothes, tease your hair and bust out that ol' videocamera!:faint:
Whooo Hooo!

Well, this camera sounded so good, that I went out and got one for our cruise in a couple of days! I told DH it can be my early Christmas present since I never know what I want anyway. He agreed and I now have one. Now I just have to read the book and figure out how to work it, lol.

Thanks for posting about this camera.
