I am completely ignorant :rotfl2: about what software I need to allow me to change, improve etc my digital photos after I have downloaded them onto my PC.

Could someone give me some advice on which software would be best for a novice, and why it is the best??

Thanks

Linda, I use Picasa, which is a free download. It is not the equal of PhotoShop in terms of capability, but is free and easy to learn and use, and can really improve your out-of-camera pictures. I suggest you try Picasa and see how you like it. If/when you are ready to move up to a more full-featured editing program, get the trial version of Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro or other, more powerful editing software.

Photoshop is widely regarded as the best software for photos - It has lots of bells and whistle, many of which you will never use. It can be daughting, especially the price, but it give great results with a little research and effort.

Photoshop elements is a cutdown version and is very good (and cheaper). It has a less steep learning curve but still provides excellent photo editing tools.

Theres also paintshoppro, but I have never used it so cannot comment.

I've used Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro Photo and recently downloaded Picasa to try. IMHO Picasa would be best for someone just starting out.

Paint Shop Pro Photo does a lot of the same things as Photoshop but is easier to learn and use, however, I still like Photoshop for some things. You can download a free trial of PSPP here: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1155872554948

In the end, it all depends on what you want to do with your pictures and your personal preference as to what software you use.
