Sorry if I don't use the correct terminology when asking this question, but hopefully someone will know what I am talking about.

I'm sure lots of you have seen the new picture frames that show your digital photos. Does anyone know how this works? I thought it would be a nice gift for the grandparents for Christmas, but I have no idea what would be involved in getting the pictures into the frame. Do you have to actually give them one of your memory cards?

Any help from all you smart folks would be appreciated!!!
Thanks :goodvibes

Yes most of them have a card slot, mostly SD cards.

You insert one that you have loaded with jpegs and it will play them, depending on the frame there are some settings that maybe customizable(like speed, order, fadint, etc..). There are many ways to get the images onto that SD card, just think card reader.

Considering the fact that SD cards are cheap, one can factor the price in when purchasing the frame. 1gb cards are easily under $20 now.

Staples has a frame in there Cyber MONDAY sale today, Think it is like $80 after rebates.

for a grandparent frame you might want to consider the ceiva. the only downside is a monthly service fee, but the way it works is intended for remote non-technical users.

the frame plugs into a phone line. once a day it calls up a web site and downloads any new photos that have been left for it.

you log onto a web site from your house (or wherever) and upload photos that will go to the frame.

that's it. you can update their frame without being there.

I've been shopping for one for my in-laws too :)
So far I've found that most of them come with a small memory card (mostly SD) or some internal memory to hold a few pictures. I use CF so I've been specifically looking at frames that will accomodate CF. Someone on this board suggested that you just give a memory card full of pictures along with the frame and then from time to time swap with a new memory card. Linen and Things has a Pandigital 5.6 for $69.99 which is a good price, but I thought the screen was too small, especially for home, would be Ok for office desk. So now I'm looking at the 8" Pandigital for $179.99 and the Philips 7" $199.99. Couldn't find much review on Pandigital but Philips has raving reviews on Amazon and from 0bli0.

8" Pandigital is at Linen & Things and they always have a 20% coupon

Philips is at Sharper Image and there was a $20 off coupon in the Sunday paper. Buy.com has it at a lower price, but I prefer to actaully see it in action before purchasing.

Hope this helps

Sue
