My mom is planning on getting a digital camera, and I have no clue about it. I need someone to give me the Digital Camera 101 intro. class.
When you want to develop pictures, how do you get your pictures? For a regular film, you just bring the film and get your film developed then your pictures are there-how is it for digital?
Do you need special things to hook it up onto your computer to view the photos?
Any information will be greatful. Thank you in advance from a digital illiterate person :( .

I can't help you with that 101 class but I can bump you back to page one :)

For pictures you want hard copies of... use the internet..isn't it a wonderful thing? LOL

I use www.shutterfly.com

You load the pictures from the camara to the computer. your computer to the internet on the shutterfly site. then order them from shutterfly. Excellent quality and very fast.

Wow Zurg, I went to your Evil Web Site....Mind if I post a link in the TAGLIARCHY?

No wonder buzz afraid of you. How is the Father-son bonding...

I digress.

mommytotwo, I would go to a Mega-electronics store (like Best Buy, or Circuit City and play with them If you are lucky there will be a sales associate at the store who can give you a 101....

:bounce:

My husband bought me two. The first one I return because I cried for two hours trying to figure it out. This Christmas he bought me one at Comp USA and it came with a 3 hour class on using it. I'm still not a pro but I'm learning to enjoy it.

Thank you for the info. I am going to keep learning about digital cameras for myself and for a future purchase. My mom decided she isn't going to get the camera since there will be to many things for her to learn.

Sure link away

Steve's Digicam is a great site that has very detailed reviews of different cameras and photo printers.

You have a couple options as for pictures. You can use a site like ofoto.com (kodak) or shutterfly.com to upload your pictures. They can be shared with others, and you can have them make copies and send them to you.

You can take your camera to a place like Sam's, Costco, BJ's, or Walmart and have your pictures printed there -- they can even put them on a cd for you.

You can buy a photo printer and print them yourself. The quality varies greatly, as does the price.. and if you choose this route, you will also need a way to backup your pictures.

I would highly reccomend burning your pictures to cd or even dvd.. whether you do it yourself or have it done for you. If something ever happened to your harddrive and you had saved all your pictures there, they would be gone forever!

Usually digicam's come with everything they need out of the box. Cables to plug into the computer and even basic software for viewing, editing and printing. Read the box carefully to see what it includes. The only thing you might need at time of purchase is a bigger memory stick/card depending on the size they start you with. They generally start you with something pretty small. Memory cards have gotten extremely cheap over the last year. If your mom is the type to take several rolls in one sitting, consider 128MB or even 256.

Good luck!
