What is a good brand to purchase? I don't take a lot of pictures and want something very easy to use. I'm told that the cameras that use a floppy disk are the easy ones.

I LOVE the Canon digital Elph line. Even someone as "electronically challenged" as myself found it very easy. I was taking pictures right out the box (well... after the battery charged). I started out with the S200 and loved it so much that we got my parents the S300 (??) for their anniversay (they LOVE it). When the S400 came out, I got that and gave the S200 to my brother.

We are one big happy Elph loving family :teeth:

I am not sure they make those floppy disc ones any more, Jodi, they were like first generation from Sony. Very big and severely hampered by the memory of only 1 to maybe 3 or 4 pictures per floppy. If you were looking at Sony, the current models use a memory stick, again, proprietary, and IMO, quite limiting.

Check this simple basics article on Deb's site to give you a primer, along with great links within..........

I would also reference the many threads found here on the DIS on this subject, here through search. Many not having to do with cameras, but many do.

PS: How was the formal night??

I own a Nikon Coolpix 4300. When I got it I knew nothing about digital photography. It is a 4 megapixal and is very easy to use and understand. It takes great pics. Wish I had some to show you but I don't have a web pic site yet. I plan on getting one after my vacation in April. One of the best websites to review digital photography equipment is www.steves-digicams.com . Check it out. It gives you the pros and cons of an extensive list of digital cameras. Good luck!!!

We also just purchased a Nikon Coolpix 4300. The photos are great but we are still learning....It's our first digital.

I also have the Nikon Coolpix 4300. I got it for Christmas and have been using it in auto mode. I hope to try the different functions when it gets warmer and I can try different things outside. It is very easy to use. This is a picture that I just took quickly using it in auto mode. It captured my cat yawning.

Jodi,

I have the Sony CD Mavica. I've had it for three years now and love it. Yes it's pretty big in size and I know a lot of people don't like that but I think of it's convienence. I take my 185MB disc initialize it and bam, I'm able to take pictures right away. At the lowest setting, I'm able to take over 1,000 pictures. At the highest settings it's about 500 pictures. After I'm done with the disc I finalize it and pop it right into my CD drive and I'm able to print pictures right away. Another pro to the camera is I can buy a 10 pack of small CD's for pennies versus the $80-100 dollars for another memory stick or card. One last pro to it is, for all of the pictures I take, I don't have to save any of them to my hard drive which by the way takes up space. I love my camera and would not trade it in for the world. This is one time, size does not matter

O' Dan!

I posted something about the ball under 'I need fashion advice'. It was wonderful!
