Digital Cameras - Olympus or Sony????

Chris, you have an Olympus D460 and it uses smartmedia cards, sandisk is the brand, LOL.
As long as the other camera uses smartmedia cards for memory you can use them.

Yes and you saw me cussing up a storm remember!!!! ROFL Well now I'm finding that it's not holding the battery life like it was either so I think I did some internal damage too!

I absolutely love my Sony F-707! Takes fabulous pictures despite the person on the other end of the camera..... Yes, the technology is proprietary, but the battery life is also longer than with most other makers, and I got a second battery so while one is discharging, the other is charging. Memory sticks are smaller than most of the other cards, so it's easier to take a number of them with you.

You probably aren't looking to buy at the level that I did, though the current model, the f-717 just dropped in price by 200, but even the next group down take great pictures. I looked long and hard before purchasing this one, and it's certainly the most bang for the buck. Takes photos at many light levels, and rarely has trouble handling a lighting condition. Takes a hotshoe flash. The mpegs aren't great, but if you really want movies, then you should be carrying a camcorder anyhow.

BTW, I use this camera for my job. I'm the Computer Specialist/Technology Provider for a major synagogue and run three web sites for them in addition to shooting most of their major events. As you can tell, the camera gets quite a workout!

LOL Chris, I remember that , and I remember me almost having a stroke because eventhough I had mine in the safely stored in the fanny pack, the first impression when I saw the camera was that it was mine, LOL.

Now go out and get yourself another one for mother's day! LOL.

Just another vote for the Kodak line of digital cameras. I'm not all that tech-y and I have found that my camera is easy to use and the prints come out great. I have the Kodak DX4330 and it has 3 megapixels and a 3 times optical zoom. Plus I got the dock that comes as an accesory so all I have to do when I am done using it is plunk it on the dock and press a button and my pictures are all instantly transferred to my PC.

I'm putting in my vote for Olympus. I have the 2.1 Megapixel cam that came out in 2001 - I've been using it with SMartMedia since then, and I get a LOT of compliments on the photos I take - I take them in HQ - so about 400k per photo. If I were to upgrade to a higher megapixel level, I'd go with Olympus all the way.

I hope you get a great camera that you're happy with, no matter what you choose! ;)

Thanks everyone for great advice. I went out and purchased the Olympus Stylus 300.... so far, so good but there is a lot to learn! I was swayed by its small size and the fact that it is weather resistant.

One ? - is the standard resolution high enough to print photos from? (it's the one it always goes back to when I turn off the camera). Thanks for any info..... (Zurg are you out there?)

Depends on what size pictures you want to print? If you're thinking 3x5, 4x6 or wallet sized, then it should be fine. If you want to do something like 8x10's, then you'll want the highest possible resolution.

Congrats on the purchase!! :)

Do you know if there's a way to keep in in the high quality mode when I turn it off and on....? Thanks for any help

Congratulations, enjoy!!!!!! And remember, pick up a few big memory cards (128's or 256's) and practice, practice, practice......it's free to take as many as you want and check the results on the camera or PC. Good places I have found memory at are www.buy.com and www.ecost.com . Again, enjoy!!!!

Congratulations on your purchase! The Stylus looks like a nice compact camera!

I found the manual that comes on the supplied CD had more information than the small manual in the box. Try looking in there for the settings you need.

If you don't have Adobe Reader on your PC, there's a free copy on the CD to view & print the manual. (I found it easier to read in 8 1/2" x 11" format) ;)

Now you need a spare battery & some extra memory & your all set!

Good luck :)

Does anyone know the difference between the Olympus C-730 & Olyumpus C-740?
