This will be our first trip to WDW. I plan on taking a lot of pictures with the digital. I currently have 5 GB in memory cards. Do you think this is enough? How much memory do you take for your trips? We'll be there for 6 days. I have also pre-ordered Photopass, so we'll be using that too. Thanks so much!

With the photo pass and the 5GB card you should be fine, I would think............it also depends on the resolution of the picture. We have an SLR camera and went for a week in February with 3GB and no photopass and took 150+ pictures and we were fine.

I would think 5 gb would be good. Even if you have around a 10 MP resolution, you'll still be able to get a good 1500 pictures. If you plan on more than 250 pics a day grab another card. If you plan on doing video with that card and pics, I'd get another card. Between my brother and I, we took 600 pics last year in 9 days, I want to tripple that by myself this time.

Wow 1500 pics on a 5g card??? I'm not camera savy but, my camera must be alot higher resolution.(Don't know the stats...since I'm currently at work) We can easily fit 500 pics on our 10g card....but always carry a spare 10 g, also.

Since you're doing the photopass as well, your 5gb card should be fine. If you were relying solely on the photos you take, I'd take a second memory card just in case one goes bad. That has happened to us already - thankfully we had photos on two cards so we didn't lose everything!

The one thing I can recommend to keep your cards in good shape is to never, ever delete individual pictures from your card. That is the main cause of corruption.

I always bring my laptop with me and upload the pictures from the day each night. That way I can start over the next day with a formatted card and not have to worry about how many I took that day. I wind down by looking at the pictures from the day and reliving it. : )

Have a great trip!

If you don't have a laptop to save pics to while on vacation or a data vault type device, I'd recommend several smaller cards and leave them in the room once full. That way if the cameral should be lost you don't lose all your pics. This is a practice I use with my underwater cams in case of a flood but it applies to losing a camera or card.

Thank so much for the advice. I do have a laptop that I can bring. I just had not planned on bringing it, but I've never been to WDW before. I have to take pictures. :cool1: I do appreciate the input! :thumbsup2

The other advantage of using several smaller cards is that huge GB cards literally slow the camera down - even the high speed ones.

I have a couple 1 gb cards that are high speed (can't remember the specs) and got a great deal on a 4 GB card for my last trip, that is an even high speed than the others.

I have a Casio EXLIM camera (small, pocket point and shoot) and the reason I love the camera so much is it's speed of start up and recovery (and that when you press the button, it actually takes a picture RIGHT THEN), and I noticed a BIG difference in the camera's over all speed with the 4GB card vs the 1GB's.

It's a pain to keep track of more cards, but speed is really important to me, so I'm gonna stick with them!

I'm so worried about losing pics from our upcoming WDW trip. I have multiple memory cards already, but I was thinking of going to WalMart or Target throughout the trip to have the pics downloaded to a disc.

Does anyone do that?

Is it a hassle?

Is that overkill?

My pics are my best souvies, so I don't want to risk losing them.

TIA! (Sorry to hijack).

Wow - I never heard that. I delete single pictures all the time. Sometimes while I am taking pictures - sometimes to clean up my card of pictures I do not want to make room for more pictures. I have never had any problems doing this (and now that I have said that - that is when something always happens).

I fit 728 pictures of a 2gb card. But this was a point and shoot camera just so you kmow.

i took 3 2GB cards and only filled 2....with 1250 pics. my camera is 6 mp canon sureshot. that was a 1 week trip.

When you delete individual pictures, it can leave little bits of data on the card, which can cause file corruption.

You are much better off dumping all of the pictures onto your computer and reformatting the card.

I have an Olympus sp-565uz 10mp and a 4gb card.

Acc'd to the camera menu/screen it will hold 780 pictures at the highest/fine setting.

1498 at normal setting.

I never knew that about the deleting pictures either. But it does make sense. Same as a computer memory / running defrag.

Wow, I've been wondering this same question about how many memory cards as well. I just got a new Nikon Coolpix and it came with a 2G card. Just this morning, I was at Target and picked up another 2G that they had on sale for 9.99 because there was a little chart there that said a 2G card will only hold 200 pics from a 10 mp camera! The estimates everyone on here is giving are much higher than that?! Now I'm really confused...

I was mistaken when I posted previously. Duh...I went home and check my memory card. We have a 1g and a 2g card. Today I finally got around to taking the card to get pics made to hard copy. On my 2 g card we had 500 pics and room to spare. We have found....the biggest issue is batteries. we also have 4 sets of rechargable batteries ready to go...and take the charger along. Each time we swap out batteries....I go back to our room and put them on the charger. I always start the day with a fresh set of batteries and a spare set in my shoulder bag.

For our week long trip, we used 3 2gb cards, around 1500 pics and photopass. We did not end up with many pics for photopass as the photographers do not come out in the rain.
