Digital Camera recommendations: under $200 please

Is the super zoom of this camer important to you? If so they I would check out the Sony Cybershot DSC-H20. It runs around $220 on Amazon but it is a great camera in the super zoom category.

I just got this camera for Christmas, and I LOVE it. I used to have a Panasonic Lumix, but this camera blows that one away. It might be a bit over your price range (not under $200), but it is a great camera!

I did not read all the replies, but we got a Samsung SL420 just before our December trip. I did not want to buy another camera but throughout the year had bought and returned 5 different cameras because they did not meet my expectations. I'm very particular about my pictures looking like what I took them of (not "touched up", I want my kids to look like my kids, defaults and all). I decided I could not live with what I had to take a vacation and ran to walmart to grab whatever looked best. I got this. It has a 5x optical zoom which is nice. We were most impressed with how quick it is. It's ready to take pictures pretty fast when you turn it on, takes them pretty quick too. It has lots of features and we couldn't believe just how nice this little thing was. I think it was about $130 at walmart. Now for Christmas DH got me a DSLR, he's tired of my complaining about digital cameras, but we're most certainly keeping this Samsung for a small camera, selling all others on eBay.

I just got the Canon 1200 and it is really a nice camera for the price. I'm impressed with the large number of settings, ease of use and it's pretty quick for a point and shoot. It also comes in several fun colors, if that's important to you. And it's tiny, which makes it convenient to carry around.

Yes, its (sd1200) small. It's about the size of my EV3 phone. Maybe a little bigger, I didn't check. It is lightweight also. The blue is pretty popular color. Check out the walmart site, they have reviews posted there. Also www.digitalcamera-hq.com

I just treated myself to a new digital camera a few weeks ago. It's a Nikon coolpix s570. As a PP stated, don't go with one that takes regular batteries. The rechargeable ones are much cheaper to keep and smaller because they don't need a place to hold two AA batteries. I think they are running around $150 at Office Max or other office supply stores.

I got mine at Staples for $169 w/$25 rebate. I had a Staples reward certificate for $68, so it came out to around $75!

It has 12 MP and 5X zoom. It is very small and lightweight. I love it!

It can not be any worse then what she has... 1.3 mp and grainy as hell!

Don't get too wrapped up in Megapixels - that is the most overrated stat in photography today. You know all those famous photos that hang in museums that were taken 10+ years ago? Very few megapixels, probably less than 4 million at most, many of them a lot smaller. If you aren't blowing up poster sized prints or doing a lot of very close cropping then you can easily get by with 6 (or less - see above). So don't let megapixels alone sway you one way or the other about any camera. It's mostly a marketing ploy - companies know uneducated consumers see the big number and get big eyes and open their wallets.

I purchased the Canon Powershot just before Christmas. It takes great pictures. I have used it both inside and outside - I'm very happy with the pictures. I like how it removes the red eye on inside shots. We took it to Washington DC this week and got great pictures of the Christmas tree outside at night. It was under $150 at Walmart.

I use to use a kodak, then I got a Canon and will never go back. Canon's are great!! I own 870is (older model) and an sx10is. After tons of research I just purchased an sd 1200is. It is on many top 10 lists. Walmart has them for 149. You can try it, if you don't like it; take it back. Easy to use; set it on auto or try out the manual features. Also, takes video clips (while they won't be as great as a camcorder, it is a nice feature to have)

I really like my Canon PowerShot A710 IS. It does take 2 AA batteries. I bought 4 AA and a charger (both Energizer) and it's all I have needed even on my two week trip to WDW. I had about 17G in memory cards as I was also filming video.

I don't think it's hard to use at all. I mostly leave it on auto.

LOVE the Canon Camera as well! I got my first when the big deal was 2megapixel - dh and my mom couldnt believe how good of pictures I was getting with a 2mgp!

I got the upgrade - its thinner - I keep it in my pocket, point and shoot - dd plays with the settings (drives me crazy!! lol)

The Canon A series means double A batteries (and like a Previous poster they dont hold the charge as well)

The S series is the lithium batteries that last forever!!

Mom had a Kodak - she's had 4 Kodaks to my 1 canon!!

I've had 2 Canon Powershots & LOVE them both. The pictures are very sharp and clear, and the colors/lighting are great. My father has one also. My mom & sister have Coolpix and they seem to take a nice picture also and are a little smaller than my Canon.

They take AA batteries and once I discovered a good brand of rechargeable batteries that actually held their charge I like the AAs.
