Hi all !!

I am using a Nikon 5600 coolpix digital. It seems that it has been taking a long time for the camera to "think" and be ready for the next picture. It seemed to re-adjust quicker when it was newer (I got it January).

I have a 512MB card in it, and it doesn't seem to make a difference how many pictures are on it. How long is normal "take a next picture" time? With a bigger memory card, can I take photos one after another (I have to wait about 10-15 seconds to take another shot).

The other weird thing it has been doing just in the past month, is every now and then, when searching thru photos, the screen will hit a "hard stop" and say cannot read memory card (or something like that). I have to shut it off when this happens.

Should I clear off the memory card and pitch it?

We leave for the World in 40 days! I gotta be ready!
-thanks as always Dis

Memory is super cheap these days, so it would not be a bad idea to try a new card. That will help determine if it is the card or the camera that has problems. I just got a 1GB SD card from Newegg.com for $17 with a $10 rebate. Shipping adds a few more dollars, but I was already buying other things.

I have a Coolpix 4300 and completely understand the problem. The camera takes excellent pics for a P&S, but shutter lag is horrific!!! I'm no expert, but from what I understand, you probably need a faster memory card. Maybe an Ultra II or an Extreme III. Memory cards do play a factor in the lag time.

I just bought a Canon S3 because of this problem. I just couldn't stand the shutter lag anymore. I bought a 2GB Ultra II memory card and there is almost no lag at all, none if you compare it with my 4300 :thumbsup2 .

sorry if this is a dumb question but are you just deleleting the pics you don't want off the card or reformating? if you delete it can take longer as it has to find a open spot to put the pic in, if you reformat it cleans the whole card. with the card error i would think it might be the card rather than the camera.

Reformatting the card, hmmm. Nope, never did that. Just deleting pictures I don't want, and downloading occasionally to the computer. How do you reformat the card?
Thanks!!

I never did either. But I always deleted all of them. I don't have my camera with me now, but I remember seeing it in the menu.

Don't have my camera with me either, but I'll check it out tonight and see if I can find it - or I'll check the manual book to find reformat.

Thanks everyone!
Happy Halloween!

I have a nikon coolpix 4600 and its slow in between pics when the flash is used, about 5-7 secs before I can take another shot. Also I always format the card after i download the pics to the pc.

Maybe re-formatting the card will get rid of those hard stops that say cannot read file. I was getting nervous that the camera was takin' a "you know what" !!!
Thanks for helping out. It is funny how things ya don't know about can seem downright scary. But, lucky for me, I can come to the dis for advice - and you make it simple and not so "scary" !!
Happy Halloween
