I am looking to buy another digital camera and want to spend around $200. I have read some good things abour the Canon PowerShot and wondered if anyone had any experience with them. The models I am researching right now are the A540 and A610. Would love to hear your comments on them and on any other digital camera in the $200 price range.

Thanks!

I have a Nikon coolpix 4600. This is my second coolpix camera. I think I spent about 299 last year when I bought it from best buy but I would stay away from coolpix in the future. I don't like the screen and each time I take a picture it takes about 6 seconds to 'recharge' so I could take another picture so if I miss something and want to take a picture quickly again, I can't.

My friend has a canon powershot and she said it's a good value but theres definitely better ones out there. I have no idea the model she has though.

So I guess this post didn't really answer any of your question. :rotfl:

Good luck!

Canon A540 (about $200) or the A620 (a little over $200). We have the A620 and it takes great pics. I paid $214 (free shipping and no tax) from www.buydig.com but they don't list it anymore. It's been replaced by the A630.

The ONLY complaint is the rear screen is 1.8 inches while the A540 and the A630 have 2.5 inch rear screens.

Being that the A630 is new, it's about $260.

$200 was my budget too until we got to the store & DH said we only buy a camera every few years so if we have to spend a little more, fine, just get the camera you want...it's for my birthday this coming Friday but figured pricing would be key on Black Friday. I had my choices narrowed down to Nikon or Canon - Nikon lost out because I don't care for the slim cameras.

This is what I got on Friday ($249) and was able to get it up and running that night. Took it for a test run on Sat. at a kids party and really like how it functions. In the 200 range there are alot of options but found that I like the bulk of Canon over the "slim" style cameras (personal opinion). Also Canon seems to get slightly better ratings over Nikon (another great option). Get as many megapixels as your wallet will allow. Other issues I had and had never even thought of till someone else looking at displays were many digital cameras only have the screen to view your shots - no lens viewer. If it is sunny out it is difficult to view the screens so a viewer is key.

My daughter wanted a digital camera for her 17th birthday. I told her to do some research and let me know which one she wanted. She picked an Olympus E170. I got it from ABT electronics for 125.00 shipped. It is a 179.00 camera. Look on Fatwallet under prices to find really good comparisons or the Pricgrabber.com site. Good luck!
