Do you have a recommendation? I don't want to spend alot just hoping that the pictures are decent. thank you in advance

We looked a long time for a decent camera for our 9yr old for Christmas. Grandma and Grandpa are giving it to her but mom and dad did the shopping. We wanted a lithium battery vs the 2 AA. We found a camera on Amazon. It was $89. I believe it was a Casio. It was really difficult to find a camera with the lithium for under $100 so we were happy. My other recommendation for camera shopping is www.beachcamera we've bought several different types of cameras from them including our DSL and have been very happy.

I got a Kodak Easyshare 9.2 megapixels for my 12 yrold dd this year. I found it at CVS for $79 with a $20 ECB.

I recommend a sony with a carl zeiss lens or a panasonic Lumix with a Leica lens. I am guessing you mean point and shoot digital cameras.

My DD10 got a Lumix, and the picture quality is remarkable!

B&HPhoto has great prices, and I suggest getting an extended warranty!

I just got ds12 a Fujifilm camera bundle from Amazon. It was very important to me to find one with a rechargeable battery vs. AA. I have a Casio Exlim(?) and it is too fragile for my ds (we've had to have it repaired twice). So, I did some research and the Fujifilm seemed to get good ratings. He wanted to be able to make a video with it, so that was important. I had given him a little recorder thing for his b'day, but apparently that only records for about a minute or so at a time. I tried out the Fuji, and it records for 28 minutes, so I hope he's happy with that. I hope this does the trick because I'm tired of sharing my camera with him constantly!!

I also recommend being sure it has a rechargeable lithium battery. Otherwise you will just spend a fortune on batteries. I have bought both my kids Kodak ones. Look for at least 8mp and you will have good pictures.

I just bought my 12 year old the Kodak Easyshare 160 for about $80, including a 4 gig card. It was the Consumer Reports best buy in their point and shoot digital camera reviews. Biggest draw back is no charger, but the image quality is supposed to be very good.

We picked up the Kodak Easyshare CD82 for DD11 on black friday. I believe it is 12MP.

My boys(3 &5) got Samsung 12MP cameras from the IL's for christmas (they did Christmas with us the beginning of Nov) and they've taken about 3 thousand pics so far and the cameras are holding up great. I really like that the camera comes with a charger cord and you just plug the whole camera in like you would a cell phone to recharge the batteries. That's easier than keeping juice in rechargeable AA's. Although I haven't figured out how to charge up a spare battery for the Samsungs. I guess they are the lithium batteries that PP's were talking about.

OP here - thank you all for your help.

We wound up at Kmart today and got DD a Vivitar, 5.1mp for $49.99 plus $8.99 for a two year warranty. But then I saw a Vivitar 8.0mp for $10 more at Walmart....I think I'm keeping this one unless I am going pass Walmart again before Christmas....It seems like a better value?? Hoping it takes good enough photos, we'll see lol

The 8mp Vivitar sounds like a really good buy! We bought a $200 camera for DSD 17 a year ago and it died of unnatural causes. (She's terrible with tech toys - I can't tell you how many electronic gadgets she's destroyed or lost - and DH insists on buying replacements)

DD11 was using my old $200 camera (I had to upgrade) and that died too. Methinks that any replacement cameras for our children should be under $100 (and I like the $50 - $60 range) until they figure out how to take care of their stuff or until they are willing to buy them for themselves!

I got dd7 a Insigna from Best Buy for $79. it works great. DD had no problem figuring out how to use the featres. I was really impressed being that it's just their house brand and fabulous for the need I was trying to fulfill.

I got my daughter a fuji z33 WP...the wp stands for waterproof :thumbsup2...this camera has good reviews so i am really hoping it lives up to it...it comes in 4 colours, i believe it is somewhere around 8MP, either 3 or 4 times zoom...and the best part, is good up to 10 feet underwater...it also has video mode....she already has a good sony camera, but she loves to buy those underwater throwaway cameras, so i thought this would be great, plus it takes great pictures...i got an amazing deal....regular 199 on for 159, plus fuji is offering a 30 dollar rebate!!! :cool1: Hoping she loves it, good luck camera shopping...
