I few weeks ago I came across a paid advertisement on Digg for a company named Digit.co. I think it would be a help for those trying to save for their vacations.
Basically Digit is an account (FDIC insured) that you link to your checking account, through a proprietary algorithm it studies your spending & income history to predict your cash flow habits. It’ll then check your account every few days to see if there is any excess money that could be saved (these are usually small amounts of a few dollars, but can be as much as $50). If it finds any excess money that it thinks you won’t need, it’ll withdraw it to your Digit account.
They have an overdraft guarantee, if they contribute to over drafting to your account they will pay the overdraft fees. You can withdrawal your money any time, as many times with no fees; the service is free to use. They make there money by the interest earned on the money you have in your Digit account, which on a few thousand dollars is probably only a buck or two nowadays.
I've been using it for a few weeks and it works pretty well, I don't miss the money they transfer over since it's only a few bucks at a time, I already have about $100 saved.
They give you a personal link to share with friends and everyone that signs up through that link earns you $5. I did not post mine here to dissuade the appearance of posting this for self rewarding.
Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with digit.co except for being a customer and have been a proud member of disboards a few years and am a DVC owner and AP holder.
