anyone know of any really really really cheap cameras which take good pictures? thanks x

Sorry I'm no expert. We bought a digital camera at the weekend from Argos and spent £75 which included a 2gb memory card. They had them cheaper but considered it an investment and for a digi cam it was still at the cheaper end of the scale.

Their cheaper ones are only 3-5MP which is similar to my phone and the photos on my phone are passable, sometimes great, but sometimes grainy, especially if enlarged.

I also find ones with a rechargable battery better value for money.

My sony cybershot cost me £160.

I always buy canon ixus ones. Our most recent one was about £300, but our one thts a few years old is still a great camera!

Maybe you can still get hold of the older models at good prices?

Try asking on the DIS photography board, there's loads of people on there who know a lot about cameras of all prices/sizes/ability.

I have a DSLR so don't know much about point and shoots so can't help much.

I know my friend bought her little sister a camera for xmas last year for like £30 from superdrug - the xmas stuff is coming out in the shops now so you could be lucky.

Don't kow how good the pictures are though....

I hope you have had other advice now! but just in case you are still on the look out then then this is an excellent deal for a good camera. However it is still nearly £70 which might not be really cheap!

Below that price I would recommend you consider a good quality second hand camera unless you are set on new. I used to have a 4 megapixel Kodak camera that took amazing photos, much better than a lot of 8+ MP cameras can achieve because the lens was top quality, I actually sold that camera on ebay for £50. Megapixel count is not that important, despite what some electronics shops might have you believe! Argos have some decent cameras for under £50 pounds new, might be worth checking them out. If you want any advice on any particular camera model than I would be more than happy to help you out

The megapixel statement is partly the true, if you want to make enlargments of the photos the more megapixel a camera has the bigger the enlargment can be unless the photo is out of focus & then enlarging it will highlight that.

I agree that if a person needs to enlarge a photo then more megapixels do make a difference beyond, say, 10 inches. However as the op was after a really, really cheap camera I would say 5-7 megapixels is more than sufficient.

I agree 100% with the person behind the camera and the subject in front of it being more important that the camera in between! I actually still use film, I recently bought a film slr from ebay for £5 and I have taken some of my favourite photos with it!

Agreed, the Lumix range of cameras are excellent value for money.
Can get cheaper but picture quality would suffer.
