Difficulty renting points?

We are considering purchasing DVC and have found the information on these boards very valuable. Thanks! Our concern is that we are certain that at various times we would need to rent points for a trip. Not having been involved in DVC before, how easy is this process? It is my understanding that we would pay the other party and the points would be transferred to our DVC account for use. I have also seen the other board here on the DIS about renting points. But, is the process fairly painless? Is it usually easy to find points to rent? Thanks again for the help!

I've rented points 3 times over the years, and have noever had much problem at all!

We rented points last year. Very easy process. The person I rented from accepted payment through PayPal.

It was just a little harder for me because I only needed 13 to complete a reservation. The lower points are not worth it to some people. When I actually connected with someone, the transaction took about 10 minutes. I paid via paypal, they called and transferred, I called and made the reservation. It actually was kind of fun.

I have rented points, bought points and sold points and made ressies for individuals. Very simple to do and no problem with any transaction. Just this week I made ressies for two couples for WL and everything went very smoothly and only took minutes to complete.

Members usually don't want to "transfer: a few points, because you can only do it once in your use year. But you can receive as many times as you wish.

I don't believe that is true. I believe an owner can transfer points in or out as much as they want but they can only go in one direction during a given UY. For instance, if I transfer points to another member I then cannot recieve points from another member until the following UY. But I can still transfer points to other members.

I have had over 900 points transferred into my account this year from 5 different members on this board. All 5 transactions were quick and painless. I wish I could say the same about planning a trip for 18 people :scared1:

I have had points transferred into my account quite a few time in my last UY. I did one transfer to someone and I was not allowed to transfer to a 2nd person until the next UY. I have had no conflicts or problems with transfers either way or making ressies. Everything went through painlessly. That's the only way to go, is painless.

Mike is correct, it is unlimited transfers in one direction per use year per MASTER contract. The CM who prevented your 2nd transfer was in error, unless those points has been previously borrowed, banked, transferred or in a holding account.

Renting is a simple process. I have transferred to other members and rented points to non DVC members. I have found those interested in renting to be very nice and the transaction proceed smoothly. It is useful to have paypal since funds can be transferred very easily. My experience with renting when we were not able to go to Disney is they do not last long on the rent board.

The rent and trade board is a useful tool for this purpose and is a great community service to DVC members.

If you need points in any given year I am sure it would not be too difficult to obtain them from members.

Good luck and enjoy.
