Difficulty Planning HS Day Because of Showtimes

Anyone else having difficulty planning a day at HS? There so many shows with different show times, even using a touring plan program, I end up with so much "free time." In another park, I'd love that much free time, but it seems like it will be wasted at HS.

Am I the only one?

Planning my HS day turned into a gigantic problem as well. I ended up having to take arrival night and turning it into a 6pm trip to HS to do all of the Star Wars stuff so that I had less issues on the full day we are going.

Are you using touringplans or a different one? I am only familiar with touring plans so I can only speak to that, but do you see how you can move the steps around and then "evaluate" instead of "optimize?" I just move them around until I get a plan without all the free time. With that in mind, I also pay attention to the location of the ride/show to make sure I'm not all over the place.

Yes, touringplans. I did the evaluate instead of optimize, and I ran into that problem of running around all over the place. That's why I was really trying to do the optimize, but it was just impossible. I had no issues with any of the other parks, but I just couldn't get HS right.

Here's what we did. Got there around 9:50, went to ToT, next, Beauty and the Beast. We went across to Rosies All American/Anaheim Produce for lunch while DH and DS went to the Brown Derby for the Dining with an Imagineer at 12. While in there, we (DIL, 2 DGDs and I) met Jake, Sofia, and did Disney Jr. and the Little Mermaid attraction and watched the March of the First Order. They (the guys) got through around 2, and we did our fast passes for TSMM, then headed over to Indiana Jones (also met Olaf). After that, we went on Star Tours, watched the JTA show, and went in the Muppets. Walked back around, met Buzz and Woody, a Green Army Man, then went to Launch Bay where we met Chewbacca (plus a Jawa) and walked around a bit. Got through in time for our 5:50 ADR for Fantasmic! H&V. Once done, we walked over to GMR, then DH, DS and DDIL all single rider(ed) RnR and we went into Fantasmic and got done in time to see the Star Works fireworks (though I confess we missed the first couple of minutes getting the stroller). We didn't meet Kylo Ren, but DS doesn't like him lol and the DGDs are just 3 and 5. Not a bad day, and the only time I felt rushed was getting to Indiana Jones on time but it wasn't a push at all.
ETA: FPs for ToT, TSMM and Star Tours. Fantasmic VIP dinner

Start by listing the shows you want to see and working them into a schedule, then fill in the gaps with nearby rides, etc. That is how I had to tackle DHS. We want to see B&TB, Jedi Training, Indy, Frozen and Muppets and managed to get them and all the rides into my plan with a good flow. Naturally it won't be set in stone until we get our FP+ in a couple weeks but it goes something like this:

Jedi Signup
Rope Drop 9am
TSM
TSM FP+ 9:15
RnR Single Rider
ToT FP+ 10:20
B&TB 11:00
Starring Rolls
Launch Bay Chewey/Kylo
Star Tours FP+ 1:00
Jedi Checkin 1:40
Jedi Training 2:10
Indy 3:00
Muppets (If time)
Sci Fi Diner ADR 4:00
Frozen Sing Along 5:30
GMR
Park Close 7pm
Either Fantasmic! at 7:30 or SW Fireworks if it ever gets scheduled.

If you tell me what all you want to do, I will help you if you want. I find it fun...I know, I'm crazy.

I had the same issue, especially with FP+. I feel like HS is in an odd transition phase where they have a few rides (most with huge lines) and then just shows. I won't be able to do TOT or RnRC so that gives me more room to play around as my husband will do single rider for one and then do ToT twice using FP+. I anticipate there will be some more walking around than with other parks to make the time flow better.

Also HS is one park I can wander in as they have great shops, so I might fill in time doing souvenir shopping that day.
