Difficulty in booking as DVC adds more resorts

I've ready many posts where people say that as DVC builds more resorts, more people will own DVC and it will become more difficult to get what you want.

Am I wrong in thinking that even if more people are in the pot to make reservations, there will be more choices so that will equal things out?

For example, once the Contemporary Tower is built, sure there will be many more DVC members, but there will also be hundreds of rooms that will be available that aren't available at the current time.

There will be more memebers, but also more options, right?

Am I missing something?

Thanks!

There may be more options but that doesn't help with a person wanting something very specific. So far I have found if you plan properly in advance there generally is no problem getting what you want. Also the ole saying......buy where you want to stay.....take advantage of the 7-11 month window. I hope I'm wrong, but more rooms and more people equate to the same thing we face today.....

There will always be exceptions and people saying that they were able to book a smaller resort at 7 months or less, but I think that it will be SSR and OKW that will mostly be available for blocks of time at 7 months or less.

There will be more in the pot, but if everyone in that pot wants BWV or BCV during October/November for Food & Wine or VWL in December for Christmas decorations, it will move from difficult to nearly impossible. Again, if it is very important to have a particular resort during a specific time period, you need to own at that resort to get your 11 month advantage.

True, but I'm thinking many people who now want AKV or BWV will want Contemporary once it is available, making AVK and BWV more accessible.

The "to die for" places of today will be replaced by the Contemporary Tower and maybe Hawaii.

Contemporary won't change BWV demand during F&W, the reason people want BWV during F&W is to be able to walk there. In fact, the Contemporary will increase demand for BWV during F&W because some BLT owners will say (like many other DVC owners) 'wouldn't it be great to stay in the Epcot area for F&W).

BLT really doesn't have a lot of appeal for a lot of DVC members - though certainly many will try and book there. Some new BLT members will also want to book BCV or VWL or SSR.

There are so many members in the system that I don't see any new resort drastically changing availability for the better. Another SSR (very large resort without a 'draw' like the monorail or animals) might change it for the worse.

At each resort Disney cannot sell more points than it would take to occupy the resort for the year, i.e., if everyone who owned at the resort reserved using all points for the year and there was no overlap in reservations, all would be able to stay there. In other words, Disney cannot "oversell" a resort. Theorectically, that would mean the building of more resorts and adding new members should not impact on the overall ability to reserve. But theory is not reality. Other factors control, such as: (a) one noted above about members wanting certain resorts certain times of year such as the Epcot resorts for Wine festival; (b) owners at some resorts, such as BCV and BWV, ar far less likely to want to stay at the much larger SSR as owners of SSR may want to stay at BWV or BCV; (c) there are high demand times, such as anytime in December, and adding more members just increases that demand, particularly at the 7 month window for members to get a resort other than their own or get their own less than 7 months out. Ultimately, having more members does not actually affect the member who always calls 11 months out and wants his home resort, but it does have a significant impact on what you can do at 7 or fewer months out.

The smaller resorts at 7 months minus 3 minutes will be REALLY REALLY hard or utterly impossible to get.

136 units at VWL. 205 at BCV. Way over 100,000 DVC members and growing fast. Easy math.

What they ought to do is build a HUGE DVC resort on the monorail somewhere. Something the size of SSR.

Looks like plenty of land there. A ton of people with kids would be on that "like a duck on a June bug."

Add another 6000 members and you will still only have 27 (or is it 26?) GV at OKW that everyone wants at 7 months out because they require fewer points than all the other GV. The number of BWV standard rooms will stay the same with a larger pool of people wanting them at 7 months. Same for the BW view rooms or the BCV dedicated two bedrooms with two queen beds.

To me, it will all equal out if it's still at WDW. If we start seeing resorts go up in places all of the country, and those folks try to reserve at WDW, it may be difficult to get reservations. However, you have to assume as well that some of us may want a change of pace (Disneyland, Hawaii, etc.). I'm not sure if you polled WDW resort owners, how many would still choose to use their points at WDW if other options were available (may be a good survey question!).

Hopefully, to your point, it will all balance out, but everyone owning DVC points anywhere in the world will have access to WDW resorts at the 7 month window as the rules exist today.

I agree with Buckeye Fan - sort of. I'm a BWV owner that loves Vero, loves HHI (and would love to go again) and actually prefers a stay at OKW (where we also own). I can imagine we would also like to take a trip to Hawaii when it opens.

That being said - with all those options that I love to take advantage of, NOTHING replaces my BWV during the 2nd week of October. The ability to walk in to Epcot for a wine seminar or the Food & Wine Fest overall and then walk (or stumble:rotfl: ) out again can't be beat. Generally we have proof positive that a LOT of people think that way. Food & Wine Fest time is pretty much sold out right now (with waiting lists). I don't have proof, but I would expect Swan/Dolphin is also. Just too convenient.
