We own 160 points at AKV with a February Use Year and 150 at VGC with an August Use Year. We just added on the VGC points and February wasn't available, so that's why we ended up with different use years. I realize I have separate member numbers and separate logins for the DVC website, but what other things should I keep in mind for managing my points?
Thanks so much for all the generosity of information on this site, I've learned so much from everyone.

VGC with Aug UY for a local? Hmmm ... that wouldn't work for me. What months are you most likely to visit VGC? Will the Aug UY give you sufficient time to rebook or bank points if you have to cancel or reschedule a trip?

Our travel is pretty random. Right now I've got a room booked for one night at PPH in August (booked yesterday, hoping to see WOC). A studio and one bedroom booked for two nights in Dec. and two one bedrooms booked in late January.

One thing is you won't be able to combine points from the two contracts for any one night of a stay, unless you use your once per year transfer.

You can see both your UY points with a single login to the member website. I just added on with a new Use Year and can see both my contracts listed seperately on the website.

If your random travel continues to fall (mostly) between Aug - March you are good to go! Just be mindful of the March 31 banking deadline. Congratulations on your purchase and have fun!

If you had told your Guide that you wouldn't buy unless you could get the same UY, they would find the February points. That happened twice with us with two different Guides and both times they found the correct UY points within a week.

Bill,
I could have gotten the same use year, but I was greedy and wanted the extra 150 points from the year before.
What are the risks with travel between April and July, BwvBound?
Although we're on the West Coast (actually just off it) right now, we'll be moving to Texas in five years when my DH retires. At that point we may plan longer stays at DL and start making trips to WDW to use our home resort priviliges at AKV.

Greed will do it every time. :goodvibes

We lived in CA for 50 years, use to spend summers on the island when I was in the Navy. Cool breezes and great weather, we visited DL 9 or 10 times.

Moved to TX, hot humid, 10 inches of rain yesterday.

Now we only vacation at WDW. There is no comparison IMHO, WDW really gives you the biggest bang for your buck. We have tried vacationing during different times of the year and have settled for the cooler, less crowed seasons, November - April.

If I am going to go on vacation, I don't want to fight the crowds and the heat. I really don't want to fight to get a ADR and be treated like cattle because of the DDP and/or "free dining".

Traveling outside the banking window is always a risk if you had to cancel or change a reservation, especially one with borrowed points. With an Aug UY, and travel in April - July, you would have less time to re-use points since they would be expiring July 31st.

The last day to bank points from an AUG UY is March 31. If you need to cancel a trip scheduled for April, May, June or July -- you may need to get creative on using the points before they expire on July 31. I may be putting too much emphasis on this point -- but my reason is due to the few resort choices on the West Coast. On the bright side, we may use our points at the DLR hotels (for now) -- but know that this option is not offered for the WDW hotel properties.

We've certainly had fun staying at the Disneyland hotels on points. I've never been to WDW, so I must say some of those lower point levels are certainly looking appealing.
Bill, where in Texas are you? We have a home in Wimberley, just out of Austin. My DH grew up in Killeen and my MIL is still there. It's going to be quite the change from the island to Texas, but I'm hoping the air conditioning will help.
