ETA:
This was only at Jungle Cruise. Glitch with iPad and they were giving Guest experience pass, not disability. Hopefully, only for today.

We were at DHS Thursday an it was the same as usual. and Epcot yesterday, but didn’t use DAS.

Today at MK they are scanning each person in the party MB for a return time. So be sure to show up together to get a return time. CM told DS they were doing it a little different today. So not sure if it’s just for today or a trial, or if this is the way.

It will be interesting to see if they are changing things going forward.

I have often wondered if they would ever implement a system where everyone in the party had to appear to get a DAS time. Not commenting on whether that's "right" or "wrong". (my needs at Disney are met with a mobility device, so I don't use a DAS)

I have a family member who has booked a trip in January. As part of that trip, when they went to make their Magic Band selections, they were greeted with this:
541313

Because their arrival date is in 2021, they have to pay - even for the "base colors" or generic gray Magic Bands if they want them! There is some messaging in the MDE app that indicates that "smart devices" will be used to replace Magic Bands going forward.

So... If they are doing away with Magic Bands, it stands to reason that there *will* be changes with DAS as well. Hold on to your hats, folks... it might be a bumpy ride while they get it all smoothed out!

I don’t think they are doing away with magic bands. But they will no longer be free. There is a thread about it on the TPAS board with speculation about what’s happening with mb and using a smart phone.

I’ve read quite a bit about this in the time since the announcement came out - I think it was about a month ago.
They are NOT doing away with Magicbands; it’s just that they won’t be free.
I personally am not surprised they won’t be giving them away for free any more. Now that people are used to them, many people are purchasing special designs or colors. We personally have many since they were sent with every reservation, so I can see not providing them free as a cost cutting method for Disney.

Magicbands are NOT needed to use DAS; they are just a way to link to the account. People without Magicbands currently have DAS linked to their park passes and just scan that to get or use DAS Return Times (or Fastpass when it was operating).

I don’t know what the Smartphone enhancements will include, but don’t think it will significantly affect DAS.

My guess about the change at Jungle Cruise was that they had some kind of glitch going on.
I can’t think of any operational reasons for doing it other than a glitch that prevented adding people without scanning.
There have been a lot of computer/connectivity issues in the past 2 weeks, so it makes sense they may have had to do it that way.

LOL can you tell that I never leave my little corner (here) of the DIS?

That's a good reminder that I need to get out and visit some of the other forums here!!! 🙃
