Different menus for DDP than non-DDP

I am wondering if there are different menus given to people who are on the DDP than those who are not on the DDP. I keep seeing people say how good certain restaurants are and what variety they have in their menu, but yet it seems that variety is very limited at most of the table service menus that we have eaten at in the last 4-5 years-but we've always been on the DDP in that time so I started wondering if the limited choice menus are because we are on the DDP?

Thoughts?

Once the dining plan gained such huge popularity, the restaurants started dropping a lot of the variety in order to keep costs down to make the dining plan viable. You still see that in the restaurants that do not participate in the dining plan.

They have similar menus whether you're on the DDP or not. You just get smaller portions on the DDP. And the sodas are watered down. Nothing egregious, though.

Where it's really noticeable is at the buffets. Having the section with the better food roped off for cash customers only is really tacky, I think.

(Just kidding, of course.)

This is not true. Sorry to disagree with you.

You get the same portions as someone paying OOP, sodas are not watered down.

I know you said at the end you are just kidding, but some people will read your post and misunderstand it, or only read partially and then panic, had to set the record straight.

:)

:lmao:

Yes everyone has the same menu. Unfortunately DDP has ruined the dining choices for everyone!

Thanks for the replies. I'm at least glad that it has really changed since the dining plan...I knew I wasn't imagining eating at Disney with lots of choices years ago...lol

Yes, the out of pocket people are having less choices and are finding lower end ingredients used in all the dishes because of the dining plan.
The dining plans caused the cuts not only in menu choices but also caused them to use lower quality ingredients and/or eliminate the higher end dishes from the menus entirely. Gotta give people their *free* food after all. :sad1:

They don't, but they should.
Why??? Those of us who use DDP pay for our food just like everyone else. I think it is pretty snobbish to think that just because I am pre-paying for my meals I should somehow be treated like a second class patron. In reality the dining paln only saves us about $25 a day for the 3 of us. We do it because we like the convinence of having everything prepaid. I see this argument all the time, but I just don't think it holds water. I think that the DDP has little to do with it. The food gets apid for either way, and there is very little difference in what DDP versus non DDP visitors pay for the meal. I think the menu changes are being made to make money, DDP or no, and Disney is doing it because they can, period. It is convinenet to blame the dining plan, or FD but in reality it would happen with out without it. Even wqith FD you pretty much break even as far as profit to Disney because you are them paying full price for the room versus the person who took the room discount and piad oop fo food. In fact many people say that they spend much LESS paying OOP.

Thank you Princessmom29- why should I feel guilty about pre-paying? Should I refuse to shop if the store is having a sale too? Disney must be making a profit on the ding plan or they'd cut it out.
The dining plan is convenient and easy- I'm tired of people acting like you are milking a system by using the services offered.

I just moved this but having read the last couple of posts, I'm going to close it because the point of the thread was not debate over whether or not DDP user SHOULD get different menus.

Also going to mention a couple of reports that people were given "special dining plan menus" at Tony's and Nine Dragons. These were very sporadic reports. If it always happens I'd imagine there would be more reports. At Nine Dragons this was likely a case of the guest mistaking the fixed-price menu with appetizers for a dining plan menu, but Tony's doesn't have a fixed price selection that I know of.
