I called AAA to look at rates for 2006 for ASM and POP. With the discount, ASM was $99 during holiday and $77 during value. For the same time, POP was $84 during holiday and $61 during value. Why is there a difference? I thought they were the same catagory? We were thinking about staying at ASM because our daughter loves Toy Story, but are now thinking about POP.

Same rates, different taxes, due to the fact that All Star resorts are in a different county.

I doubt it -- the difference is only 1-2% if I recall correctly -- not enough to amount to $15 difference per night. I would guess that somehow AAA was quoting a preferred location at ASM but a standard location at Pop? Or perhaps they were quoting the discounted room rate on one and the non-discounted on the other? Whatever the case, the 2006 rates are the same for Pop and the All-Star resorts.

AAA is probally quoting a prefeered room at All Stars and a regular room at POP.
The preferred rooms are about $12 more a night.
AAA only gets a certain # rooms per resort so if all of their regular rooms at movies are sold they will offer you their Preferred rooms.
Call your TA back and see if that is the case. She may have been looking at preferred rooms when she gave you the All Star price.
I'm paying $99 a night for my preferred room at ASMu (value rate).
If I booked a regular room it would be $77.
If the price is the same then stay at Movies your dd will love it.
It is like a Disney Movie Fantasyland!

I am 55 years old and travel several times a year. I often stay at 4 star hotels.
So the deluxe resorts do not have anything special for me.
All Star is like being in the heart of the Magic and that is where I want to be.

Here is the map of All Movies.

The Fantasia Buildings are the preferred buildings. They cost about $12 more a night.
The All Star Movie Fantasia pool has Mickey.

The buses are wonderful.

Bus rides are quite short from the ALL Stars according to PassPorter.com

All Star Buses-POP buses---CSR buses--PO buses--- Contemporary
MK 20 min---- 25 min-----15 min------10 min---20 min(mono)
Epcot 10 min-- 20 min-----15 min------10 min---15 min
MGM 10 min----15 min-----15 min------15 min---20min
AK 10 min------15min-------10 min----15 min---20 min
DTD 15 min----20 min------35 min-----15 min---35 min

It only takes 10 minutes to get to Epcot,MGM and AK from All Stars.
MK is 20 min away. That's the same amount of time it takes on the monorail from the Contemporary.

The All Star resorts have 1960 rooms each.
Pop has 2,880rooms.
That means more people in the pools, food court and in line waiting for the bus at POP.
When phase 2 of POP is built it will be 2 bus stops at POP and the 2 POPs will have the same # of rooms as the 3 All Stars.

Also All Star is closer to the main road to get to parks and thats why bus rides are shorter from there than from POP.

A WORD ABOUT BUS SHARING:

It is usually just our stop and maybe one more on the way to the parks. On the way back sometimes its all 3 but often Sports and Music share and Movies has it's own bus back.

I guess some people who stay at POP see all 3 All Star names on the return sign of our bus stop when they head to the POP bus stop and think All Stars also has 3 stops on the way to the park.
(Even when we stop at another AS resort to load up it has not taken more than 5 minutes and we are on our way!)

I have visited WDW more than a dozen times with the 1st time in Oct. 1971. It was brand new. I've stayed at FW, Disney Inn, a few the of Hotels on hotel Blvd., CBR and the towers at the Contemporary. I got to see the MK from my balcony at the Contemporary and I'm happy I got to experience it once. I just prefer the All Star Resorts.
The theaming is pure Disney.
My last 4 visits have been at The All Stars and this fall when we take dd,dsil, and our grandson age 3 we are staying at the All Stars Music. I thought about AKL and even though we can well afford AKL I just wanted Alex to experience the Disney Magic :wizard: at the All Stars on his first visit.
Where else can one find Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse at the pool?
Have a great time at Disney!

They were quoting you rates with and without the aaa discount; there were probably no rooms availabe at discount at asm so they were quoting you rack rates, they were quoting you discounted rates at pop ($99 vs 84, 15% reg. season discount, $77 vs 61, 20% value season discount). All those rates are before tax, by the way.

Thanks guys. I did call back and question her. She did state that the rates at the movies where for the preferred room because that is all they have left.
So minnie61650, you were absolutley right.
Thanks everyone!

Thanks Judi
Actually the hot tub is the one I miss also, but watching the little ones having so much in the pool, enjoying the statues and the great transportation more than makes that up for me.
Have a great time at Disney. Your DGS will have so much fun and many wonderful memories will be made for you and your family!

Judi, can I make a suggestion? Ask for the Toy Story section (its closer to everything without paying the preferred room rate. But ask not to be facing the courtyard. In the courtyard there a cute area for the kids. I had asked to be facing this but the room was not ready so I took the rooms that were ready instead. It ended up being a blessing. Traveling with DD12 and I were my DNiece, her husband and their B-day DS4. Alex is energetic (nice way of saying it) he's good but just can't sit still. If we would have been facing the courtyard he would have been either constantly asking to go play there or maybe just going by himself. Since our view was that of the smalls woods we didn't have to worry (out of sight, out of mind). Everyday that we left the room and took elevator he was allowed to play for a few minutes. We love the Toy Story section since it is close to everything. Have a wonderful trip.

Have Fun.

We did request Toy Story....my grandson :earsboy: is a huge Buzz fan. When he saw the pics of the resort online, he went nuts. This vacation is all about the grandkids. Mu granddaughter :earsgirl: is only 15 months...she will be thrilled with all the excitement.

Thanks for all your advice. :cool1:

$77 during value season is the regular rate without a discount..... for a non-perfered room. I am not sure how AAA discounts but that isn't a discount...that is a rack rate....
