As mentioned in a prior post, we're saving up points for a big family trip next summer and didn't have points for a trip this summer. DH couldn't stand not going - so we booked a stay at POR for a pretty good rate. We are getting APs with the DVC & 10% discount - so will work out pretty good for us. Other than the obvious of space and kitchen facilities and the huge tub - what other amenities that we are used to through DVC will we be missing. I would assume free internet isn't available, but I'm not sure. No valet parking at the moderates. Are there small fridges? Pool Towels? We realize it's not what we're used to and we are prepared for this, but I just want to make sure I'm really prepared!

Let's see...

No free internet, that's only at DVC resorts, staying on points.
No pool hopping, also only when staying on points.

Biggest difference for me, aside from the lack of space and kitchen facilities, would be double beds instead of queen or king.

As a member, you can use free valet parking, whether or not you're staying on points. It's only available at DVC resorts, so even if the mods did have valet, you wouldn't get it free.

Pool towels are available, and you will have a small fridge in the room.

Why don't you rent the points you need from another member and stay in a studio. My guess it will still be cheaper than staying in a mod. Unless you are getting a dining deal.

To me the biggest difference is no private balcony/patio. When we stay in a regular hotel room, I go stir crazy without a place for DH & I to escape the kids & have a cocktail.

Also no free laundry.

Anyone know if the moderates have coffee makers? Are they full sized or 4 cup ones?
