Difference between the deluxe vs deluxe family stateroom

What is the difference between the deluxe vs deluxe family stateroom, veranda. Is it just the increase in sq footage?

I believe the difference is the square feet and the fact that the deluxe family has the ability to sleep up to 5. Not all sleep 5, but some do. I will be corrected my others if my answer is wrong.

We were in 2 different Deluxe Family Oceanview with verandah rooms (4A) on the Fantasy. One of them slept 5 (Queen bed - 2; sofa bed -1; bunk bed - 1; murphy bed - 1):


The other only slept 4 (no murphy bed, extra chair in room):

On the Dream and Fantasy, the Family rooms also have a round garden tub with bench and overhead rainforest nozzle in the shower, instead of a more traditional rectangular tub. It's also at least a couple of inches taller, which will be important to anyone over 5'10". But beware: on the Dream and Fantasy, when they re-did the room categories a few years ago, they base the "Family" designation on "total square feet, including verandah." There are some "Family" rooms where all of the extra space is on the verandah, and where the room is the same as a regular room, including the bathroom setup.

The murphy bed seems like it could hold stuff.... It's just two adults and a 5 year old, so don't really need sleeping for 5.

Another thing to consider is that in the Family rooms (the ones with the extra room inside the cabin), on the Dream and Fantasy the cabinet/desk extends further also giving you more storage space. On the Wonder/Magic, there is an additional cabinet also (used to be double steamer trunk but I think is now just a double cabinet - hopefully someone can confirm that since the last time I was in a cat 4 on the Wonder it was still the double steamer trunk).

Yes - in the 4a's and 4b's we were in on the Wonder, there was a steamer truck twice that size that was at the foot of the Murphy bed (rather than in that cutout space in the cat 5's). In that same place at the end of the murphy bed on the Fantasy and Dream, the desk/cabinet unit was extended that same length for extra storage.

Oh, found a picture. This was in a 4a on the Wonder but I'm guessing it was replaced by a regular cabinet during the stateroom refurbishment. The murphy bed came down from the opposite wall and made it hard to get into the steamer trunk when the bed was down.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but the murphy bed is usually only open at night and then only if needed. It does block access to the verandah door so you wouldn't want to leave it down all day. However, the "family" staterooms will have that extra square footage of at the end of the room if you are needing a place to put stuff (suitcases, kids' toys, stroller, etc.).

Also it is possible a person may find sleeping on the murphy bed more comfortable than the sofa bed of the overhead bunk. My sister does so we are now doomed to rooms with murphy beds (not a bad thing, but not a cheap thing ).
