Difference between smart phone and internet phone

I'm getting ready to get a new phone with my cell phone plan. I've always just had the plain flip phone with nothing special on it. DH thinks I should upgrade to one of the new andriod phones. He gets one through work and I have to admit that they are very cool.

Anyway, I went to my provider to look over the options. To get an andriod phone, I have 2 choices of phones and then a $25/month unlimited data plan. They do not have any other choices for the data plan (other than unlimited).

Or, I could get what they were calling an internet phone. I have my 2 DD and my mom on our plan, so there are 4 of us total. We currently have unlimited texting which costs $30/month. If I get one of the internet phones I could up the unlimited texting to unlimited text and internet and it would be $50, so an extra $20/month, but the the girls could use the internet on their phones too.

DH still thinks that I should get an andriod. The girls definately don't need the internet on their phones (which I agree with).

But for all the extra expense, I guess I just don't understand what is so much better about the data package on a smart phone versus just an internet plan on the other phones.
