Difference between Character meal voucher & Costco's Character meal?

I had posted a question earlier about being able to use the Character meal tickets for their value at other dining places in Disneyland. It appears you can, at least with the Costco tickets you get for Character meals. However, I just purchased some with points through my credit card rewards, (Chase ultimate rewards), and am disappointed that it seems like they have a specific day you have to use them on, and a list of character meals they are accepted at. These are a voucher you print out and go to the ticket booth to get your ticket for the character meal. I guess I need to know what the ticket will say that I get from them. I really want to just use them for their value, but if I get there and can only use them the next day for a character breakfast and don't have a ADR, I may not be able to use them at all.
Anyone have any experience with these vouchers and the tickets you redeem them for?
