difference between cat. 6 and 4

We had a category 4 last cruise. This cruise I am thinking of going with a category 6. My DW is concerned about the space we will lose. Any thoughts? What are the subtle differences between the two categories? I don't think we will miss the 30 sq. ft., but I guess it's hard to move down after you have had a higher category. There is a nice size price difference between the two categories ($800).

the difference? A chair and an extra pull down bed. I would go with a 6 and save the money.

I have to agree. We had Cat 4 on four of our cruises but now will be in a Cat 9. I am sure it will take a bit of adjusting, but the savings is worth it for us this year.

If the cat 6 doesn't have the pull down bed then where does the 4th person sleep...in my case its a teenager? The convertible sofa is only a single. I read that some cat.6's sleep four

There is a pull down bed above the single sofa in a Cat 6. In a cat four they can sleep five guests, with an extra pull down bed next to the sofa/pulldown.

Will the pull down bed sleep a 12 yr old. or is it better suited for a 4 yr. old. Anybody know?

Thanks!

Rooms that sleep three utilize a single, convertible sofa for the third person. The back of the sofa folds over to form a single bed, approximately 32 x 72 inches (81 x 183 cm).

Rooms that sleep four utilize a ceiling pull-down berth for the fourth person. The pull-down berth sets up over the sofa berth. I have some photos of Jeff, our cabin host, demonstrating how the upper berth folds down from the ceiling.

<table align=center border=0 cellspacing=10><tr><td><a href="http://www.dcltribute.com/trip_report/images/jeff_showing_the_upper_berth_4.jpg"><img src="http://www.dcltribute.com/trip_report/images/jeff_showing_the_upper_berth_4_thumb.jpg"></a></td><td><a href="http://www.dcltribute.com/trip_report/images/jeff_showing_the_upper_berth_5.jpg"><img src="http://www.dcltribute.com/trip_report/images/jeff_showing_the_upper_berth_5_thumb.jpg"></a></td></tr></table>

The pull-down berth is approximately 32 x 72 inches (81 x 183 cm) and has a weight restriction of 220 pounds (100 kg). The clearance from the upper berth to the ceiling is 35 inches (89 cm). The upper berth is fitted with safety rails and a ladder when it is made up by your stateroom host.

Oh I just know my 13 year old would get a super duper kick out of sleeping on that! :D thanks for the pics

Dave .... in the Category 4's that sleep 5, is the murphy pull down bed the same size as the sofa bed?

Thanks!

As I recall, the murphy bed is larger than the pull down bed above the sofa. While we never had it down, the outline on the wall looked about the size of a typical double.

The extra space (created by the murphy) in a cat 4 is nice, along with the extra storage space that you get, but we'll be going with a cat 6 this next trip - we decided that for us, it was the veranda that was important, so I guess we'll see how it goes.
