Is there really any difference between breakfast buffets?? Im not talking about Boma, because that is different. And I'm only talking about food not characters.

Specifically Crystal Palace, 1900 Park Fare, Chef Mickey's, Cape May, Tusker House. Should I go to one or the other?

ABSOLUTELY!:lmao:

They're all different. Different food and different set-up. Some are better quality food than others. Selections are quite different at all of them as well.

My favorites of the ones you mentioned are 1900 Pk Fare and Cape May. 1900 Pk Fare has quite an extensive selection of items including a chef that makes omelets and good quality food. Cape May is more limited but very good quality.

Some may disagree with me but I think CM and CP breakfasts are over-rated and over-priced. I don't think the quality is as good there as the ones I mentioned above (but that's only my opinion).

Have not been to Tusker House so I can't give an opinion on that one. And..of course you are aware that the characters are different at all them as well (as you mentioned).

If you like you can check out my website for reviews with photos of both 1900 Pk Fare and Cape May Cafe.

My wife and I have always enjoyed the fun atmosphere of Chef Mickey's. However on our most recent trip we branched out and tried 1900 Park Faire based on recommendations from Disboard members. It was excellent, the food was more then a step up. Omelets, Lobster benedict and many other options that were far superior to many of the other breakfast buffets. Unfortunately, none of the Fab 5 are there, however the Mad Hatter is quite fun.

Our family has been to many of the character buffets. We liked the ones we visited, however, 1900 Park Fare has a slight edge over the others. The kids really enjoyed the character interaction at the GF. The Mad Hatter was the hit....of course DS3 didn't think so...

The Hatter handled this in a "Hatter" kinda of way...with very funny, silly comments. We all laughed...except for DS3;)

1900 Park Fare

Happy Planning!

I have heard many times on these boards that "it's just breakfast...you can't really screw that up" and "it's the same buffet" from location to location but we quickly discovered that breakfast can be screwed up big time and it's not all the same.

I agree with jwfla422 about CP and CM are overpriced and overrated. CM's was downright disgusting. I would honestly love to see the reviews of the place if the Fab 5 were moved elsewhere and the food and service had to stand on their own. I suspect that it would quickly drop in popularity and be revamped.

CP wasn't as bad but it also wasn't that good and it took forever. I think it is an alright choice if you want a before rope drop breakfast in the MK but that's about all it's got going for it in our book.

Cape May and Tusker House on the other hand, were both fabulous! Both offered more selection and the presentation was a step above that of the others. The character interaction was also a million times better and the service much more attentive.

We've never been to 1900 PF for breakfast but we had a wonderful dinner there and were told by a handful of other guests that night that if we liked dinner that we would love breakfast. So it is on our list for next trip.

The only two breakfasts that I have tried from your list are Chef M's and Cape May. My husband and I like Cape May better because of the laid-back atmosphere and great service we've had there. The kids like Chef Mickey's "because it's fun. And the food tastes good."

They were very put-out that I hadn't planned a Chef M breakfast on this past trip and have asked that it be reinstated this time. (I took it out because of the very poor service we had received the past 2 visits...and we are not demanding people..even if my screen name is crabbygal!) :goodvibes

I would choose Crystal Palace, because their French toast puffs are amazing! Drizzle a little honey on one, and I'm in heaven!

Yum! Lobster Benedicts sound good!!! They have the strawberry soup too right?

They all have the same basics, but we have always preferred Crystal Palace (the setting and location are amazing), but the food has always just seemed fresher and tasted better than other places (chef mickeys or 1900 park fare)

Just a personal preference of course :)

1900 Park Fare

Happy Planning!

Thanks for the advice!! Your picture prompted me to read your entire trip report. I love it! Your kids are so cute and your pictures are amazing!!! Unfortunately there is no kids going on my trip- I am 25 and am going with my family because my sister is graduating from high school. So the character interaction isn't quite as magical but still fun!:)

Thanks for the kind words! If there are no children, then Park Fare might be for you...at least Alice, Mary Poppins and The Mad Hatter "talk". You are sure to get a humorous comment from the Hatter!...and what a great way to celebrate a graduation!!!

Enjoy your trip!

My family has had breakfast at all of the ones that you have listed. While planning our trip this year, I asked my family where they wanted to eat. The only 2 unanimous locations for my family was Tusker House for breakfast (and Sci-Fi for lunch).

We do like Cape May and 1900 Park Fair (Mad Hatter-not so much).
But the options available and the carved meats at Tusker House made it a stand out for our family.

Chef Mickey YUK! YUK! YUK!
Crystal palage, ok but nothing great (except the puffed french toast).

Wherever you choose, keep an open mind and don't think about what you read on here and enjoy it! Have fun!

We have tried them all, love 1900 the best, Cape May and Tusker probably tied for 2nd, although Akershus in Norway we found Very good in spite of the varying reviews.

*note to a pp- Mad Hatter scared my DH too.;)

The Mad Hatter bothered my DGS11 so bad that he asked if he could leave and go out and sit in the lobby. He could not enjoy his meal because once the MH saw that he was really getting under his skin, he kept on and on and on taunting him-it was like he was making him a spectacle for the entire restraunt. I had to ask him a couple for times to leave our table so we could finish our meal so we could leave. Food was good but the taunting ruined our whole experience.

Tusker House is my family's favorite breakfast buffet. It has the standard foods but also has some unique twists on things.

We've done all the character breakfasts multiple times each. We are now at a point that we say for the most part they are all the same, eggs, bacon, fruit, etc for the most part, and trying to stick to doing the ones that offer somethign different that we really enjoy.

CPalace is our favorite - due to that puffed french toast. We are eating breakfast there 3 times during our next trip, all because me and daughter can't get enough of that french toast!

Cape May we enjoy, and like that it seems more laid back. Also, we like that it's NOT near MK. Is nice for us to not have to take a bus all the way out to MK, just to end up heading back down towards DHS or EP for the day. (We usually stay value or POFQ, CBR - find it easy to take a cab to) - or eat breakfast and then walk to EP to start our day or boat it over to DHS. For us, it's convenient to eat here so that gives it a big plus!

Ohana we love - even though always wait forever for our table. Plus the juice, yum! We really enjoy the food there - pretty much mostly eggs, bacon, potato, mickey waffle kind of people, so that has all we want family style and gives us a break from running back and forth to a buffet!

Tusker House - we enjoy it because it's easy to do on our AK day, and again, juice, yum! So convenience, and the juice! ohhh, and the donuts! And I think Mickey looks so cute in his safari outfit!

1900 Park Fare we enjoy the selection there a lot and food is good. we always seem to get seated in a timely manner. Last trip, they also started serving that awesome juice, too! I like that you can get omelets there.

Chef Mickey's - eh, we find they have nothing special to offer that can't get elsewhere, but always are drawn to going there for Pluto and DOnald Duck for my son, and just the whole character draw of that. In reality, takes forever to have characters come around. Most times we are done eating and only one so far has come by, and we end up leaving.

Playhouse DIsney. Kids like that they have pancakes, and I love the potato casserole there. Also like the convenience of being in DHS for it.

Akershus. Is nice to do if want the princess experience... but overall, we found there are better breakfasts out there for us to be doing that offer more variety. I enjoy the breakfast potatos there, though.

Boma was very good, on our list to do again one day! Is a super quick cab ride for us when we stay at All Stars.

Whispering Canyon we really enjoy when staying at WL. Love the breakfast skillet!

CRT we've done dinner and lunch (prefer lunch) but never breakfast. Just feel there are so many other good breakfast options out there that have more selection to offer than CRT does.

For us, we just hate that you have CP, CM, PF and Ohana all up near MK and have to go, for us, allll the way out towards MK for them just for breakfast, and then knowing we plan on heading all the way back out to DHS or EP. So it's tough fitting them all in for us.

Working on tweaking our ADRs now, actually. Am torn over Chef Mickey's or not. we are due to dine there again, and like the characters there, but would be easier with schedule that day to dine somewhere else.
