We are seriously concerning buying an add on contract with AKV (our home is BCV). We have stayed at AKL, but not in the villas so I don't know a lot about them. What is the difference between the two? When you purchase points at AKV do your purchase specifically at Jambo or Kidani or it is just generic AKV points and you can make your reservations either place?

It is my understanding that you purchase at AKV, there is not a difference between the two.

AKV points are AKV points - there is only one resort. It's like SSR with Congress Park, Grandstand, etc. There are multiple sections but just one resort.

The only difference is temporary. If you buy points at Kidani Village you can't use them until the occupancy date of your unit.

That is correct. When you buy points at AKV, it doesn't matter whether the unit that your points are attached to is in Jambo or Kidani. They are a part of AKV and can be used at either. When you make a reservation once Kidani is open, you can request either location, based on availability. Once your reservation is made, the building will be confirmed and guaranteed.

The villas are will be slightly different.

The contract you purchase will be specific for an area of the AKV resort. Some of this units are located in Jambo House and others (the majority) are in Kidani Village. In many cases, owners will never even stay in the "unit" they own. (A "unit" is usually defined as a group of villas. At OKW each building is a "unit", at most of the other resorts it is a group of villas within the resort.)

For AKV owners, the specific "unit" has nothing to do with where your actual villa will be located for a stay. For reservations, the points are generic and you will be able to make reservations within either building at 11 months - just as non-AKV owners will have the same opportunity (based on availability) at 7 months.

They are one in the same for people with AKV as a home resort. However, there is a usage difference while Kidani is still under construction.

Jambo points (already sold out) - These point purchases are currently available to use at the existing DVC villas in the main building within normal booking policies.

Kidani points (selling now) - These points can not be used at all until May when the building is expected to receive official occupancy status from the state. They can not be used at Jambo house until after that same time.

After May, all AKV home resort points can be used at either building. As well, all DVC owners can book at Jambo house now, or Kidani as of May, within normal 7-month booking guidelines.

So, after May, there will be no distinction between Jambo purchased points and Kidani purchased points. I understand reservations will be specifically differentiated by building though. After all, don't want people to check-in at the wrong front desk and have to hoof it to the other one with kids and luggage in tow.
:rotfl:

Hope that helps!
