we just got back about a month ago from a family reunion trip/DS wedding in Hawaii..

I never though to sign up for the frequent flies account since we really don't fly all that much and on the same airlines.

But I happened to see an ad that you could transfer your "miles" into some else account.

Well there were 16 from my family that went on this trip. The miles from the Hawaii trip were around 9500.

I saw on united's website you need 25000 for a free trip.

So my parents said they'd sign up and trasnfer their miles into my and DH accounts. that leaves us 6000 short of a free trip.

(we have our 25th anniversary trip planned for Oct)
the max amount of points you can transfer is 15000 so my kids will give us their points!!!!

I cant believe this:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

all it will cost is $25 to trasnfer miles.

I hope I'm not missing anything!

anyone have any advice or opinions!!!

thanks

Wow! That's wonderful! I hope it works out for you.

Has anybody ever heard of Delta doing this? My DS has miles from a London trip that will expire unless he flies somewhere else (which is not too likely). It would be nice if I could pull them over into mine.

Wow! That sounds great. I was wondering about Delta too.

I know NWA will let you transfer, but I could not find any info that Delta will.

NWA will let you transfer miles in increments of 5000 miles, with a $0.01 fee for each mile and an additonal $25.00 fee per transfer. On a 5,000 transfer, that will cost you $75.00. There are in-coming transfer limits (I think it was 25,000) per account.

If anyone finds that Delta DOES transfer, please add that info here 'cause it would be helpful to us to transfer Delta, too!! Thanks!!!

Delta will not let you transfer miles. My mom looked into moving some miles from my Dad's account recently and they said no. If you are short on miles, the only option is to purchase them from Delta (or take another flight!)

Thanks kkc1021 & goin2disneyagain for the info. on Delta. That's too bad they won't let you do that.

In addition to air miles, some hotel plans let you do the same thing. I know for certain that Holiday Inn Priority Club lets you transfer points between accounts. I'm not sure if there is any fee attached to the transfer as I've never done it, but it is an available service.

We've also racked up hotel points when traveling with others by having me book both the rooms on my account. The other people we traveled with didn't have an account so they let me get the points for their room as well as our own room. In just one 7-day trip last year, I earned enough points for 4 free nites thanks to the 2 rooms and a double points promotion that was going on at the time. Then I paid for the whole deal on my Marriott Visa and got even more points.

Delta actually will allow you to transfer points (miles) but you need to have enough to purchase the actual reward 25,000 or you need to be dead :)

sahara910,

That is not considered a transfer. I think what the OP was asking is if you can transfer miles from one persons account to another, that can not be done with Delta. BUT you can redeem a ticket for anyone you want, just no transfers. :)
