Didn't see any rolling backpacks at the parks last week!

Not looking to start that thread over again - just wanted to let people know we were at WDW last week and I never saw a single one of these - either being pulled, or parked anywhere. I suppose people could have been wearing them on their backs and I wouldn't have noticed, but it wouldn't have been an issue then.

So maybe they're enforcing more or the fad's wearing off!

I would assume it's more that they've never really been "popular" i guess. It's more that some have used them on occassion. I use one but if it's crowded I shoulder it.

I don't really think they so much enforce it, because I dont really think they have a rule against it. If they do then I stand corrected but I think they just realize that some have to have certain things for reasons.....in some cases being health related. I agree though that it could be a problem if everyone had them rolling around and not shouldered.

When we went just recently, I saw plenty of people with rolling backpacks. However, I didn't see many that were actually pulling it.

When we were in HISTK playground, I did see one woman with a rolling backpack and she was eating a sandwich from her backpack and the CM came over and asked her to stop eating since food and drinks were not allowed in there, but he didn't ban her backpack.

I don't have a problem with rolling backpacks, to each his own... I'm more aggrivated at the people who don't/can't follow simple instructions - like move to the very end of the row to make room for incoming people!

oogieboogie - liked the line on Mickey's Philmagic - something along the lines of "Those of you entering, please move over and fill in all available seats; Those of you leaving, thanks for making the seats available!"

I don't have a problem with the rolling backpacks, but it may be because our local amusement parks all rent wagons, not strollers, so I'm used to seeing much bigger, heavier things pulled behind people!

I can't believe a CM really cared if a lady ate a sandwich while waiting for her kids. I would have been embarrassed and maybe even mad if this happened to me. I see people eating home prepared food all over the place including benches everywhere, in the American theater at Epcot and low end restaurants like Pecos Bill's and Cosmic Ray's. They order a soda and then sit down to eat their own food. I know they don't care if you bring food into the parks anymore since security just passes you through. I guess if its not a gun or a bomb they don't care what's in your back pack! I am surprised at this CMs action.

I believe the issue with eating the sandwich was that she was INSIDE the playground where even food bought at Disney isn't allowed.

Aaaahhhh, good point. So it really didn't matter that it was home brought food or not, just food at all.

I see you are from concord. I am originally from Concord. Went to concord high school. Now live in South Florida. I moved here nearly 3 years ago. PM me and let me know more about you.

Yeah... the issue that the CM had was that she brought food in to the playground when it wasn't allowed. He didn't have a problem with it being from home. He was also policing a lot of kids that were climbing on things that weren't supposed to be climbed on.

Okay I have been going to WDW since it opened but can't figure out which playground you are referring to: "we were in HISTK playground"

I understand about the sandwich now. You used to get in trouble if you brought food in, but not any longer -since 9/11 they don't seem to care. They have bigger things to worry about now.

that's the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Playground, it is near the exit of the Backstage tour. My son (when he was younger - up to around 7) loved it. We always dreaded it though, very little space for adults to sit/stand while they keep an eye on their little ones playing in this area. Grab some floor and if you are lucky some wall space to lean up against. Generally crowded and utter mahem. good security in that your child's armband or hand stamp (not sure which) which they give you upon entering, must match the adult's who is attempting to leave the play area with them.

The stamp is a good idea. My grandson went in there and after only a couple of minutes he was nowhere to be found. At the time I went to the cast member by the door for help. He said he wouldn't let anyone out until Andrew, then 4, was found. It of course ended well but I was a nervous wreck. This stamp or band is such a marvelous idea. I wish they had it three years ago, when we had him with us.

They didn't have any stamps/wristbands since I've been going there in 2003. Everytime we go in there they just let us thru. There is a CM at the exit and they do stop children from going out by themselves, but there was definitely no controling how many people went in there.

There are days where it's a total zoo in there. I hate going in there but since the kids love it so much, I just grin and bear it.

I'm sure it is embarrising to be caught breaking the rules. But mad? Mad at myself perhaps.

Jeff, from the FAQ section of the "Your handy guide to all the magic" booklet they gave me at checkin at Coronado Springs last week:

Q. What can I take into the Parks with me?

A. You can bring your typical sunscreen, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages along (though coolers are not permitted).

Sounds like snacks (including a sandwich) aren't against the rules in the parks, just in that area.

I think I have noticed rolling back packs much more in the summer, or hot days.
I am assuming the guest's rolling packs probably are coolers.
I have seen an official notice somewhere regarding coolers. (I would not have paid attention had it not been for the recent discussions here.) Basically the coolers must be a size where they can be stored in a locker.
Now that backpacks can be coolers on wheels, hard to say if the cooler policy fits or not. And if they even actually enforce no coolers being brought in is questionable.

I have a feeling that huge backpacks, rolling backpacks or whatever would not really be used all that much and if so, only by people on their first trip (who thought it might be a good idea) or those who truly need them for some reason. I really do not want to even carry an extra bandage if I can help it. Too cumbersome getting them on and off rides and such IMHO.

BTW, anyone ever see people in spike heels in the parks? I have and have wanted to follow them for a bit and see how long they can last. LOL

I am at an age when comfort beats beauty anytime (besides it is easier to achieve too) (grin)
