Didn’t use home resort priority, can I switch contracts?

I booked at a non home resort. So I did not use that advantage. Can I change which of my two contracts the points came from? If so can I do that myself online or do I need to call?

You can try to do it online. Just go in, modify it, but don’t change anything regarding dates and room. Then, check the contract you want and uncheck the one you don’t,

Sometimes, a contract will show locked even when it was a 7 month booking and we are not sure why. If that happens, you will have to call as I am sure thye can override it since it is a 7 month booking.

So... I've tried this a few ways and it seems like it should be possible but it is not working for me and I'm wondering if anyone has a fix.

Both of my contracts are resale, so different membership numbers.

I have a reservation that I booked at a non-home resort about 4 months out. It is just one night. I want to switch which contract my points are taken from. When I try to rebook it online, it does not have the lock on it, and it lets me choose which contract to "use first" so when I rebook I do that and click "use first" one the one I want it to switch to and "use second" on the one that it is currently booked with (there is no option to completely uncheck the unwanted contract). But when I go through with the rebooking, it doesn't actually pull the points from the contract that I told it to "use first".

When I call member services to see if they can do it, they tell me the reason this is happening is that the computer thinks it knows best about which points should be used first (banked, transferred etc). I disagree because I have more banked points in my contract I am trying to switch to, but regardless of if I disagree or not, someone should be override the computer decision and pull the points from the contract I choose since this is not a home resort advantage.

Member services tells me that they can't do it for me either since they can only see one contract of mine at a time (maybe this is because my points are resale?) but either way, it should be possible. MS says the only way they would be able to rebook with my other contract is if the room is currently available (yeah thanks I could do it myself if the room was available, I could just book the room). I called twice, got the same story from MS twice.

Does anyone have a work around to get this one night reservation to pull points from my correct contract.

Thanks for your thoughts.

If the points from both Memberships A and B are current UY points (not banked or borrowed), you can have Member Services transfer those points from B to A. Then, modify the reservation under A without changing anything. Transferred points are always taken before current UY points, so this should work.

But if the points from either contract are banked or borrowed, then your only recourse is to cancel the reservation made under A and re-book using B.

Hi there! I’d love to help, but I’m a bit confused...
Both of my contracts are resale, so different membership numbers.
Just FYI- membership numbers have to do with UY- not direct vs resale. If you have 2 membership numbers, then you must have 2 UY. Otherwise, you’d have 2 contracts under the same UY, and they would both share the same membership number.
When I try to rebook it online, it does not have the lock on it, and it lets me choose which contract to "use first" so when I rebook I do that and click "use first" one the one I want it to switch to and "use second" on the one that it is currently booked with (there is no option to completely uncheck the unwanted contract). This description leads me to believe you have 2 contracts within the same UY- if you can truly see them both and can check which one you want from the booking screen (not from the search page drop down box)... but if that’s the case, you should also be able to only check the one contract you wish to use 🤔
Member services tells me that they can't do it for me either since they can only see one contract of mine at a time (maybe this is because my points are resale?) but either way, it should be possible. So, this is 100% the case for 2 memberships (2 sep UYs). Your different memberships are just the same as if your friend wanted to “take your booking” using their own contract... it won’t work. MS can’t use both sets of points at once, they truly must cancel the one booking before being able to let any other membership pick it up (inc another of your own).

However! If you really only have one membership (ie UY), with 2 different home resort contracts on there- then MS can (and will) switch between them for you (when not using home resort priority, as you stated)... but then they’d be able to see both contracts “at the same time” so it seems like there has been a breakdown in communication somewhere ??

Thanks for your thoughts.

If you have one membership and both contracts have banked points, they should pull the banked points from contract checked first and then fill in with contract checked second.

If it let’s you reverse the order and make the contract you want to choose first, it should let you uncheck the second one. Try unchecking both and then just check again in order.

Have you completed the booking all the way through once you have the contract you want first? There is a message with banked points that will show up before booking thay Makes it seem wrong but once you do and then review the points summary it pulled correctly.

There seems to be a recent issue with doing it online. I used to be able to do it all the time, but recently it's been making me call in to switch. Hopefully they revert back.

General MS agents cannot cross the UseYear difference (ie different Membership IDs) on a booking. Same UY not a problem, banked, borrowed, whatever - they have the keys to move those points around to make the reservation work.

That said, higher admin MS DO have keys to move points between UY. These would be one-off cases though under special circs like VGC points expiring due to its closure for 1 year (speaking from direct experience) -- not normal situations where simply want to change points out. Been there with 3 UYs. Very challenging when balancing out points <7 months.
